Replaced a 2nd ignition coil yesterday and its still misfiring. I think I'm just going to replace them all. Is it common for all of them to go bad around the same time?

Utec.

Can you tell me where the grounds are located? I can check tonight when I get home from work.

By the way, if anyone needs parts in the Tampa area, Jim at Turbo Toys is awesome! They will be painting my car soon. I was planning on Midnight Purple, but he made a very good recommendation...Royal Saphire Pearl. Hmmm...

How do you know the one you replaced wasn't working?

What you need to do is leave the engine running and unplug them one at a time. If you unplug one and there is no change in how the engine is running you know you have the right one. That is how I figured out mine.

It's not normal to fry a coil pack.

There is one near the top left of the timing cover (when looking from front) and another one about half way down on the same side. They both connect to the same chassis point under the power steering reservoir.

If you find that the same pack fried, you've probably got a short or loose connection somewhere. If you find that you've got random packs failing, you either have a loose engine ground, bad ECU/UTEC, or possible moisture in or around the ECU/UTEC. Also check the ground at the UTEC (black wire should have a solid chassis ground).

Another thing I'll note is that if you drive excessively with bad coil packs, you're going to slowly lose compression in that cylinder and clog your cats.

The ones I've replaced have had a bubble protruding from the side.

I'm trying to drive as little as possible. My work commute isn't bad, but it's over a 30 minute drive to get the coil replacements. I'm trying to have a friend pick them up for me.

If you don't have cats you'll probably be alright just be real easy on the gas and keep the rpms down. Does your check engine light flash everytime you give it gas? Thats what mine was doing. I had to pull over immediately because my cats were getting too hot, and 3" cats aren't cheap to replace LOL

I found another fried ignition coil...that makes 3 total. I went ahead and replaced all of them, so hopefully the problem is done! I'm having boost withdrawals! I've only been able to boost 1 day in the past 3 weeks.

that sux bro, thats exactly what my car was doing. If you keep blowing coils, then you prob have a short somewhere thats making the utec go crazy

for me my options were haltech or BMW, I made the jump since I got tired of all the BS. Hopefully you are good now

That was the same thing for me. One day, it didn't star on the first try, but it did the 2nd try. I heard the Walbro turn on, all accessory lights came on, but the engine didn't attempt to crank. The problem became more persistent until it wouldn start. I replaced the clutch safety switch and it starts fine now. That my be your problem, too.

I replaced 2 more coils tonight. I have 1 spare left...then I'm parting my car out and selling it. I think a 370z is in my future.
