Bruised Ego

More often than not, I find myself jumping into things that I have little knowledge about, and 99% of the time it works out great and I sometimes stand back in amazement at what I accomplished.

Yesterday made up for the 1% of the time... and this time it cost me.

I've been working on installing a recently purchased nitrous kit all weekend. Now, to save myself an install cost of $300 I decided to tackle it myself. So I poured about 15 hours into this project, meticulously wiring and labeling everything... then comes installing the Utec.

I didn't 100% understand the spare solenoid output wiring scheme and I ended up connecting +12V to the ground wire. Next thing I know there's smoke then a little puff of flame as one of the components inside gets toasted.

Damage control: so now I'm worried I may have toasted my ECU...nope, everything checks out okay. So I hook up the Utec again and connect it to my computer. I turn the engine over and it starts... whew. Now I'm looking at my computer while I rev my engine and I notice that the timing is being pulled really low (about 15 degrees) while idling. I attempt to rev the engine but it's vibrating so bad that I just go ahead and shut it off.

Looks like whatever I fried in my Utec is messing with the inputs or something. I'm going to call TurboXS and see if they car repair it (hopefully for less than a new one).

Lesson learned: take your time, be patient, and if you don't understand... ASK!

All in all, I could have paid $300 and had the whole thing done for me worry-free. Now all I've bought is a bruised ego

Its alright my friend we all make mistakes. Its just trial and error. In due time you'll learn from it and know not to do it anymore

I was test fitting my IForged wheels on my new Z. I found out the wheels don't clear the calipers in the front, nor the rear.

I put the front wheel on and it BARELY cleared the caliper. I tightened a few lugs and tried to gently spin the wheel. Oops...the damn wheel scratched the caliper by about 1/2". My first day of owning the car and of course I screw it up.

Still impressive that you attempted it. Being ambitious like that may lead to mistakes, but you'll be that much more better off that you tried and were relatively successful.
