chip repair
paint chip repair
OK, my clear bra got hit with something that actually pierced the bra and chipped a pencil size chip in the paint. it only took off a sliver of the topcoat, and went to the primer, no metal. I had the bra removed and will have a new one put on once it is repaired, but i am wondering what to do now. repaint entire hood, which seems way excessive, or go with a guy who does chip repair. i have met a guy who feels he can fix it by either repairing the chip only, or doing a minor blend on it. the chip is almost dead center near the end of the hood, where it meets the grille. i also am contemplating finding a nice badge to place over it, kind of like the mercedes and bmw's have on theirs, and not worry about the damn thing.....
any thoughts or recommendations on chip repair persons?
man, having a hot car you take pride in really sucks sometimes!

Most painters will have to repaint the whole hood. If this guy is confident and you have seen his work go with the chip repair. I'm not a fan of hood ornaments.
that will work. thanks. yeah i'm gonna just go ahead and have the whole hood done. thanks for the recommendation. any idea how long it takes for new paint to be fully cured and ready for a new clear bra?

Mike/Omi and Daniel/SFLG35 have taken thier cars to have paintwork done there. They vouch that the shop is credible and do very good work. Call and see if they can airbrush your paint chip out instead of repainting the whole thing.
I would have reccommended the Langka kit for your paint chip, but you drive a diamond graphite car like myself, and its hard to blend in touch up paint with our color.

hey thanks for the recommendation. i made an appointment for the whole hood to be redone the week of the 13th with the shop i have used on a previous Maxima, and previous G35, but i was able to work with a guy from Aero Colours, a chip/scratch repair company, and he did what looks like will end up being a nice job of airbrushing the damage. it took him almost 1.5 hours to get the formula right to match the paint, due to the difficult color it is, but i think it is pretty dead on right now. he is going to need to do some final work on the spot next week, like wetsanding/buffing and clearcoating the area, but i have a good feeling about it. worst case, i go and check with the guys you recommended, before i have the hood totally done. and if they can't just fix the affected area, i'll go with the whole hood option. if i do that. i will probably paint the black section of where the mirrors attach to the G too. then i have to get Alan to rebra the car. and then i can rest.......
