Stock Rim Widening Question

Has anyone had their stock rear rims widened? I was thinking of sending my rear 18's to get widened by 2 inches to fit a wider tire for more traction and a stock look. I still have to confirm if there is enough clearance or if I would need a spacer. Does anyone know?

2004 6MT (Where did my sig go????)

I vaguely remember about 2 or 3 months ago, I saw a post in the wheel's section (before everything got all mixed up) talking about widening the 17's, there's a chance I read it on my350z forums, but I think it was on here ... so apparently somebody did it already.

I have wanted to get this done on the 19's myself. But I am concerned as to the weight, durability and driveability, how well they hold up under load, how easy it is to balance, offset, the list goes on and on. But I will def, be calling these guys tomorrow. Thanks for the link!

try here; it's $200 per wheel

www.fixrim.com/wheel.htm

call the Dallas store, they specialize in it.

I was going to do it this winter. I just bought an extra pair of rims.

I'd take that $700 + shipping and then take the money you could get for selling the stock wheels and tires and get an aftermarket set.

Sure. But then you would not have the "sleeper" effect.

Now, everyone must excuse my ignorance, but the front wheels on the 6MT are 18X8. Are the rear wheels 18X8.5? I have not confirmed the size of the wheels. But if this is the case, can the rears be put on the front and have the fronts be widened for the rears? I don't know if there would be an offset or Brembo clearance issue between front and rears. Does anyone have any input on this?

i dont see why you couldnt

and as far as i know those are the correct sizes. you will have to take the stoper out of the front rotor though so you can put the rear wheel on the front.

A couple people have done this mod. G356gear on this board(and my350z) did this to his stockers. This is a great sleeper mod.

Would be nice to see some pics of this swap and mod from the rear. I'm sure it would look mean.

Those stock wheels are heavy enough as is, I wouldn't want to make them even heavier, you might not see any performance/traction gain out of doing it. I bought bigger and wider wheels that actually weighed a few pounds lighter than the stock smaller/skinnier tires.
