ok so ive bought 2 different sata drives and neither of them work. windows will install then when the gui system loads whre it says you have 39 mins left it hangs.

ide drive makes it till the end of the installation where the computer is about to resart and then in blue screens.

i definately have 1 bad stick of ram

i was just able to burn a copy of ubcd 3.4
how do i test the video card?
how do i test the ide drive?
how do i test the sata drive?
how do i test the power supply?

Sorry, I've fallen off the track a bit. Did you test the old-but-good power supply with the IDE-drive-that-works and the one stick of memory-that-works all at the same time in your computer?

When you overclocked in Windows, it probably overwrote the BIOS settings. I would probably go in to the BIOS and select the "Load all BIOS defaults" option and save that. Your computer acts like one that is overclocked too much.

If you can't go back to the old IDE drive... and you need to proceed with the SATA drive, I would make sure you have the most recent BIOS for your motherboard. I'm sure ABit has BIOS updates that can be loaded from a boot floppy.

I don't think UBCD will test the video card or power supply. I test power supplies by swapping in a power supply that I know is good. Same with video cards. I thought your video card started working again.

My best guess is that something is wrong with your power supply.

My second guess is that something in your motherboard or BIOS is not currently compatible with the new SATA drives.

Hooray!!! Success!!!

I don't have any extra RAM that would work in your computer. I usually buy memory online from Crucial. They are a subsivision of Micron and are one of (the only?) actual memory manufacturers in the US. Use their Crucial Memory Advisor tool and select ABIT, then Motherboards, then Fatal1ty AN8 SLI and you're good to go.

Glad you're back...
