What is there to do in JAX?
A friend (fem) wants to take me somewhere in the state for my pre-birthday weekend. (3/23 = bday)
What is there to do in Jacksonville? I'm over in G-ville and the only times I've even gone to JAX is to get on an airplane and leave the state!
Please help ASAP - trying to make plans for this weekend!

I would say go downtown to The Landing.. some good places to eat, and a nice walk along the river is pretty cool with the lady. The twisted martini is a cool place to get drinks after.
Bonefish Bar and Grille on Jax Beach is also a great place as well, then a walk along the beach.. lots of places in Jax Beach to go to.

Okay, here goes:
Gonna be hard to find a nice place to stay because the NCAA tournament is going on (as well as the TPC). Try calling this guy: Randy @ Homewood Suites. Tell him Amy and Cass referred you (641-7988). The place is called the 'Town Center'. It is the only hotel right there on the Southside. It has a high end mall surrounding it (J Crew, Gap, Dick's, yada yada yada), a Magione's, Cheesecake Factory, PF Chang's and a great place for breakfast on Sunday at a Cafe. It is about 2 miles from the UNF campus and there are several nightclubs within 10 miles of there (Roxy, Globe) and it is nearer to the beach (about 12-14 miles) (Ragtime, Sun Dog). It isn't too hard to find and pretty upscale.
Unless you are really a hard@$$ ganster, stay away from the reggae clubs downtown and in Arlington. Jacksonville has a huge gange presence and is the muder capital of the state. They are truly not the places to be unless you are a regular...

I asked my classmate about Jax today... his home town. and his response "I have nothing good to say about Jacksonville"
I know he only speaks for himself...

Jacksonville sucks.. I've been living here since '92.
I hear there's a seafood festival on Saturday at the Beaches (Pavillion); usually those are interesting. Lots of food, bands playing, visit the shops on 1st street, etc. I'll probably be there.

Lynerd Skynerd came from Jax.
Did you know that Jacksonville used to be known as Cowford? It is also the largest city in the US in land area. All of Duval County is within the city limits, except for some of the beaches areas.

I will honestly say, for younger (21-25y/o) pure, club going partiers, Jacksonville isn't the best town. There is only a handful of clubs that are cool, and they get old. But if you are into mowing through martinis, good food, getting dressed up, etc., there are plenty of places to go and lots to do.
I go to tons of concerts at the Florida theatre (part of the guild); have Jaguars season tickets; go to many baseball games; live at the beach all summer; have three golf courses within 5 miles of my house (one less than .5 miles); events like the ACC college championship game, TPC, yada yada yada. For pure partying, I love to go to WPB and Miami, but living there would suck unless I were as rich as Stallone and Madonna...
