Have a G35 05AT and want to install a FI system. Is this something that can be done over a weekend or do you recommend that it be done by a performance shop. If it needs to be professionally installed, do you guys know of any shops in the Tampa area?

 

Definitely NOT a DIY weekend project, except for the hardcore enthusiasts. My advice would be to have a shop install it, and dyno tune it if possible for even more safety.

Unless you are a very mechanically inclined person I would suggest to have it done by a professional. I just had my Stillen charger installed and there would have been no way i could have done it myself, and i have installed everything else on my car. it is not your garage mechanic type job. as far as a shop in tampa, i think there is one in drew park. my buddys did mine and they are ase certified guys with advanced level blaa blaa blaa.

 

pro install dude, my friend messed up his civic doing a FI and he does like 99% of the work on his car himself.

 

Depending on how complex the kit is it can vary. The more complete TT kits can go up to 34 hours or so of install time (if you know what you're doing, if not, then it'll be longer than that).

You should find a good tuner and let them do the install and tune the kit.

 

i installed my stillen in about 9 hours in 1 day.but im still an ase certified tech and been in the auto repair industry for 29 years.i dont wrench on cars anymore well except mine.and i gladly gave some help to fl-g35 these past couple of weeks.but if you are not highly exp. i wouldnt attempt it,esp with the tuning aspect.

 

XAT racing in Tampa is a good shop to check into..

 

I'm and IT guy (ie. not a mechanics) and installed my APS TT kit myself. I took my time, and about 100 hours later, all was well and boosting. Some pics here:

It's not that hard...

 

I installed it with my brother and some other friends. It not a weekend thing at all unless you spend 24 hours on your car all day all night.

Hope you made a trip to Sears for a free replacement. They may not be the strongest available, but you can't beat that free replacement.

If my brother finds a busted-up Craftsman hand tool (at a garage sale) that he doesn't have, he'll buy it and then go get it replaced.

 

I don't know if he broke it, or cut the wrench. The threads going into the turbos on the APS kit are very tight, and you need a stubby wrench to get into there.

 

I am not a mechanic, I am an Aerospace engineer but I know cars and would say I have "good" skills. I installed my Stillen Stage 2 in about 12-13 hours including taking brakes and eating. This is one of the few kits that can be done in a weekend, no problem.

A TT will take you way, way more time. Dynocomp has done quite a few APS TT kits and they still told me 20 hours. A turbonetics ST or Vortech/ATI SC could be done in a weekend but it is a risk. If it has to be done over the weekend I would not risk it.
