well the EU is 499 plus you have to get the autosport harness unless you want to cut your stock wires... itis 249 i believe so you are right at utec prices,

yes the EU will help you but i think for our cars it is worth the extra few dollars to get the utec just for the rev limit raise alone...

the F CON is badass, BUT you have to have someone fly out to tune it as far as i know. i really dont know too much about the tuning end of it, i know it has a lot of great features but is some serious $$$$ once you get all the options you need to use it....

audible,

The harness is only $90....I am leaning towards the UTEC, but my guy at SGP favors the EU and he gets pissed when I question his judgement. SGP is licensed for UTEC, but I think they prefer EU. Does the UTEC work on the 2006 Rev-up engine?

Since they are far and away the best tuners in my area (Houston...and I know of people from all over the country who seek their work)) I need to stay on their good side. Everyone who has had work by SGP swear by them, so I definately want to use them.

sorry man, i know the autosports harnesses were 250 when they came out...

i dont think that they work on the rev ups, that must be why they are leaning towards the EU..

good luck with whatever you do!!!!

honestly if i had my shop open right now, i would charge you about 500 dollars for the emanange, i would install a wideband which would cost about 200-300 dollars and NO MORE than 300 to tune the car.

that would put you at 1100 WITH a wideband. without the wideband i would charge you right around 800 ish dependin on how much the autosport harness really cost. you said it was 90 dollars than we would probably be looking around 900 total.

its so easy to tune a NA G or Z, i hate to see these shops charging soo much for something so easy to do. they just have a lot of overhead at their shops cause they spent soo much on dynos and equipment.

installation on the emanage takes all of 15 to 20 minutes depending on if you took a break after pulling one piece off the dash...

you should get a breakdown on those prices, yes they are steep. ask him exactly what he is charging for what and then post them up here...

i think you will find that there is a few hundred in there somewhere thats not accountable for on paper..

Thanks aud,

I agree w/ your price breakdown. Should I pay their price even though it is, lets just say around $200 more than it should be? My conceren is that fine tuning a car w/ an engine management system is a skill and maybe I should be willing pay a high price for someone who is very experienced w/ this car and this system.

Or, would any speed shop w/ experience w/ Japanese cars suffice?

Another option is to get the breakdown and let him know I will be posting it. But then I am back to the "pissing him off" problem.

yeah just get the breakdown on the price from him, see why he is charging that amount. any good tuner can pull more hp out of your car, really good ones will be able to pull a few more, not really that big of a deal on a NA motor.

you will probably make your most power at 12.8 to 1 AFR and timing +2 over stock. its about the standard with the VQs...

good luck. i wish i had my shop open i would have you come up here to orlando and have me do it. i cant wait to get it up and running. i am a very honest guy and will charge everything accordingly without EVER raising prices for the sake of making extra money..

aud,

The EU is 510 but the harness is 90. The tune is 400. Those prices are fair. If the wideband is 200-300 (it is used to tune, yes....the idea being I can then "street tune"...is that correct?) then I am paying 200-300 for the EU install.

If I am getting the wideband then his price of 1500 is acceptable. Good shops, and this one is good, have lots of overhead. If I am not getting the wideband, then I am paying too much.

So I guess I should get a price breakdown and make sure I am getting the wideband.

PS. Considering the mods I have, the EU should be all I ever need, yes? An F-con would be overkill, would it not? I can't afford one anyway.

i doubt his price includes a wideband, this will help you be able to tune it yourself and watch the AFR to know if anything is going wrong with your car...

So, then, I am paying 500 for the EU install? Since SGP seem to be charging way too much, can anyone recommend a shop near Houston?

aud,

SGP is going to hack into my system w/ the regular harness. They don't like to use the autosport harness, and claim that the install will be 4 hours of labor at $95 per hour.

They have a lot of experience installing the EU, although their prices are high. I found a UTEC tuner here in Houston, but I already bought the EU and regular harness from SGP. They are the area specialist for the VQ35, so I hope that they pull the max hp.

SGP has a very good reputation....and they charge for it. However, they have a ton of experience w/ the VQ3.5. There is another place called Engine Logics (281-933-2262 ). The guy (Chris) has a Soobie background but is eager to break into the VQ3.5 market. He is the only UTEC guy around.
