Project SWAP! figured i would share.

ok guys, as most of you know i bought alans (djniknala, theking) car. a fully built darton sleeved, greddy tt, arias 9 to 1 extreme duty pistons, ported heads, 1mm larger valves, JWT cams, etc etc etc.....

and as most of you know, i drive a 2800 pound daily driven 350Z that was in need of more power.

i decided a couple weeks ago to just swap the motors and last night i started the whole process. (6-22) i was working by myself last night cause everyone was busy, i am just using hand tools and a cherry picker. i got alans motor out in about 4 and a half hours, all by myself and its my first VQ that i have ever pulled out. here are some pics, i will be pulling the Zs motor out on sat and will be putting in the built motor on sunday....

like to thank a few people (ZUL8R, Done12Many, Beddow) for helping out a bit, whether it be on the phone or actual help today. i will keep it updated, and here are some pics!!!

i posted this on my350z and in the florida G35 section, but i figure if i can help anyone with a similar project then this post is all worth it...

fun fun fun...

well guys, i really wish it would stop raining, matt and i had the Z apart and motor out in just a few hours, then actually swapped all the fuel stuff and put the motor back in the G in about an hour. then of course it rained all day AGAIN!! maybe later tonight or possibly tomorrow i will have the motor into the Z and ready to put both cars back together. cant wait to get everything all done. i swear it has rained almost everyday since i started late last week!!

these are the AC brackets, they are different on the Z and G and we had to take off a coolant line that attaches to it and the bracket and swap the whole setup. not a big deal just had to figure it out cause the compressors are totally different on the two cars.....

its funny the engine was laying on the ground this morning, it rained for hours and now the car looks about 95% together. i hate the hose clamps that the greddy kit has and i am going to buy some new clamps to put on all the pressure sides. i broke about four of them, all i have left is the front bumper, hood, test pipes, and the utec stuff to mess with (boost solenoid, map sensor, fuel and timing maps)

then i will ready to drive it!! i hope to be able to start it tomorrow !!!!!!

from last nights posts

well all i have to do is put the test pipes on, girl came over and had to eat dinner, so i didnt have time befre it got too dark to see to do the TPs. i also have to run the vacuum lines and am not 100% sure exactly where they need to run to and exactly what Ts off from what. hopefully i can find a GReddy TT diagram. i will be putting in the figures for the utec tonight and hopefully turning the key on by midday tomorrow!!

today was such a long day of doing nothing, i only had a few items left but had to run to the parts store about three times for stupid stuff and the more parts i add, the tighter that engine bay gets...

thanks guys and i will hopefully tell you that it started on the 1st try tomorrow!!!!

so thats it

thanks guys, this was all done in my backyard with hand tools, one or two people helped out for a bit but the majority was done by myself.

just wanted to show that its not that hard to do. i have only pulled one engine out and put it back in to date. i am a bit crazy and like to do stuff myself.

i will be starting it today at around noon. i will keep everyone updated.

i plan on finishing up the G and returning it to full stock and then selling it. it has 30 000 miles and the Zs motor that i put in it has less miles.

How did you get your Z to 2800 lbs while retaining all stock body panels and glass? Mine is 3200 lbs without driver and its gutted with a carbon hatch/lexan window. Mind sharing your secrets?

Still, even without all that 2800 lbs seems a little off to me. Is that an estimate or have you actually scaled the car? Like I said, my car is gutted from the dash back, have fiberglass racing seat, no passenger seat at all, no radio, no speakers, LMGT4s, lightweight battery, and more and I am still 400 lbs heavier? Rickdogg has the same stuff as me as well without the TT kit, and he doesn't even have side windows or anything in the doors they are just a dry carbon shell. His car weighs 2900 lbs w/o driver.

This is beyond amazing. I think I remember reading in some random thread that you mentioned you were planning to open up a shop? If so, good luck! You obviously have the talent.

Wow. . .now that is awesome. I can't wait to have a bigger yard! And spare time! And lots of money to burn. . . Someday. .. someday. I'm crazy enough to pull my own engine too. . .it's just a matter of time. Your pics motivate me. I love the back yard pics of the cars with the empty bays. . .they look like elephants with their faces blown off or something. Haha! Keep up the pioneering for us. . .
