g35c ati almost done
Re: just tuning left!
gurgenpb, DallyCurtis:
I'll dyno when I get it tuned. Hopefully soon.
Until then, I'm taking it easy. Here are some
g-tech numbers though (averaged in both directions):
stock, 6.2 (auto)
crawford, random tech, borla, 6.0
ati at just over half throttle (~3psi, manual shift at 5k), 5.7
As for the drive, it definitely has lots of power when you mash
the pedal a little. During normal cruising, however, I can hear
the bypass blowing off air all the time and I can feel the drag
of the sc compared to before...
Ironically, it's quietest and sweetest sounding when on boost!
Overall, I still like turbos better (had TT rx7 before) but the ATI
is a better value (cheaper and can be install by owner).
Here's a picture from today (finally got a wash after 8 months):

Re: just tuning left!
Nee4speed,
THanks for the reply! A follow up ro two:
1) So as far as sedan fitment, what do you think. I think that the only potential problem is the intecooler. Could you post some pics of the mounted intercooler. Other than that, it should fit, even though we do have a mechanical fan. I guess it will require an electrical fan conversion (which I am doing next!)
2) So you got 5.7 sec on the G-tech with a throttle only half way down (3psi). Is 3 psi the normal setting when you are in full auto mode, and >5 in manumatic? Wow, if your g-tech says 5.7 for a 0-60 at half throttle, I can imagine hwat it will be for full throttle with full boost (althouhg I feel you, you don't wanna be doing full7 psi all the time, as our aluminum engines just can't take all that all the time).
3) How much was the kit with the intercooler (if you don't mind)

Re: just tuning left!
gurgenpb,
1. a g35s friend is coming by this weekend so I'll take a look.
My best guess is that you'll have to do 2 things: electric fans
and re-do the intake plumbing. Just find yourself a close
source of 2.5" silicon hose tubing (straight, 45 and 90 degree
bends).
2. technically, a superchargers boost is directly proportional
to your RPM. Auto or manual mode does not matter.
What boost gets into your intake manifold however is
different because: 1. you might have a bypass valve venting
boost, 2. your throttle body is not open fully.
So, at ~6600 rpm, the ATI blower should get 7psi (with the
belt it comes with). At 3000 rpm, the boost should be about
half. But by adjusting the pedal (throttle) pressure, I kept the
boost to ~3psi (either via bypass vent or throttle).
3. I bought the G kit with the original Z group deal on my350z
through SuperChargersOnline.com. Ask Tony for a quote.
It should be around $47xx.
good luck,
rob

Re: just tuning left!
thanks a lot for the info. One thing is unclear, please forgive the multitude of questions.
You got 5.7 sec on the gtech with only 3 psi boost?
What I want to know, with a full throttle start, what is your 0-60, and/or 1/4 mi.
Thanks again for all the help.
Are you by any chance in Northern Cali, I would love to see your wheels!

Re: just tuning left!
N4S: wrt to the bypass noise. I wonder if it would be possible to fit a small air-filter (acting as a baffle), maybe an oil breather etc. to quiet down. I assume that the bypass valve has a hose conection, but since there is no pre-SC Air-filter , they had no were to route the hose?
Re: just tuning left!
Can u plz give us spec or a dyno? How does it sound. Do you think you can take on an M3?
My only friend i that i depend on is blue. He makes sure i win. He makes me scared and hold on tight as i sweat. He is my only friend that gives me what i need from a push of a button.

Re: just tuning left!
The bypass does have a small kn filter at the end of it.
I put some sound insulation around it and it's quieter (but
not enough for me). The Z's bypass outputs into the intake
(after air filter but before blower) so it might be quieter to
begin with.
I don't have any quarter mile times or dyno yet
but I did a quick 0-60 at full throttle (6k shift, hit ~6 psi max,
gentle launch from idle without wheelspin): 5.2s
Not bad for an auto. With tuning, a better inline intake (than
the one ATI gave), more aggressive launch, and I should easily
shave .1 or .2.
As for the M3, there's a video of a 6spd Z ATI easily beating
a M3 so a 6spd G35C ATI should take it. The auto, I don't know.
I just wanted an upscale touring car that as fast (in a
straight line) as my old tt rx7 so I'm very happy. Only CARB
certification would make me happier (yes, I'm in Nor Cal.). Any
one have a smog tech as a friend?!? 8^)

Re: just tuning left!
WRT to the bypass valve exhaust noise.....
I did a search under "pnematic mufflers"
and there are tons of products which probalby could knock the
bypass noise to nil. This one is probably "overboard" but I bet it flows well an is very quiet. It probably isn't cheap though. see-> http://www.alwitco.com/ "atomuffler". How big is the inlet?

awesome!
jdove,
Thanks for the link! I'll browse around to see if one might
work. The ATI surge filter is a KN RU-0160. The inlet
diameter is 1.5 inches, 3" diameter total, 4" length.
thanks,

Re: awesome!
HOLD EVERYTHING...
Need4Speed:
I remember reading on the 350z forums of people blowing their engines when they had the combination of the ATI Supercharger and the Crawford Plenum's....
I noticed you have the Crawford Plenum installed on your engine... as well as your shinney new charger... have you had any problems with it since you've had it installed in your car?
The 350z forum guys obviously had the problem when the pushed their car... making the fuel to lean (?) because of the extra inlet of air at 30% more with the new plenum....
just letting you know in case you didn't see that on the forums... hope all is well with your new sleeper though.
