Thats a pretty long IC . But it may not flow as much as the stock IC . From what Ive been told and read , a longer IC cools better , a taller - wider IC flows more . Look into a Icevex IC , well built and half the price of Spearco or a Greddy

Important to BALANCE the air flow pressure drop with the temperature drop as 1 psi = 6.8% density change and 11F = 1% density change..........another 1/4 psi restriction needs another 19F temperature drop to just be equal.

However one must calculate the fuel knock index vs temperature so it may be only half as bad.................cooler is better than psi for street gasoline.

i think the stock IC is up to the task for quite a lot of power, I wouldn't change it until you're making some really huge power and your intake temps really are rising enough to the point that you need the air to be a lot cooler.

STI's intercoolers are smaller and they're handling 14 psi just fine

That intercooler is a tube and fin core which is something I dont think Spearco sells. We build all kinds of intercoolers using Spearco cores so I know we could come up with something that is much better then the Vortech intercooler that comes standard withthe kit. Shoot we can even supply some real mounting points on our design When we installed the Vortech system on a customers car I was in awe that there was no real mounting tabs for the intercooler. It just laid on some flat pieces of aluminum.Cheesy!

The Vortech intercooler is good for about 500WHP efficiently. After that, the efficiency drops and you start to injest very hot air into the motor.

that sounds right to me, but are there many people running over 500whp on a vortech?

I know of one guy...he's making around 510whp

and you can always add water/meth injection which does more than just cool the intake charge, but also helps prevent detonation and steam cleans the engine internals

Yes people can make over 500WHP with the Vortech intercooler but it is not as efficient as a larger intercooler would be.So if you go to the larger intercooler you will make more horsepower with no other changes except for some minor tuning adjustments. We would be willing to make a replacement intercooler specifically designed for the Vortech S/C system if people were interested.
