The motor is just a basic build:
Arias 96mm 8.6 CR
Eagle H Beam Rods
ARP hardware
OEM Bearings
Basic headwork (Valves seals, 5 angle cut, very mild P&P)
Cosworth/Cometic 96mm hg
Crank balanced and polished
Gasket overhaul kit
05 water and oil pumps
Total cost of build under 3500 including longblock core and machine shop labor, saved quite a bit by having a local machine shop bore and hone and assembling the longblock myself. I think fully assembled longblocks go for avg. 5-6k + core 2k...
And... ANYONE can do this with a service manual and the right tools.... took me about 1 week working on and off maybe a couple hours each night, and I'm slow, and don't have much skills....

hey its not a race when your building your own block.... its how well you do it..
I have been comtemplating about doing this down the line, due to the fact assembling involves stretching the rod bolts and torqued to the right spec.
torque specs i have no problem with as I have done a head gasket on my jeep, but the head bolts needed retorquing after about 300 miles of driving, not alot, about quarter of a turn. Since you done it already whats the proper way to torque the main and rod bolts?

My machine shop assembled the shortblock for me since they had to do the maching of the cylinders and crank anyways, I would have saved like 100 bucks if I did that part myself. But its just putting on the bearings and pistons rings then torquing down the rod bolts and main studs.
I'm shooting for 500whp once I'm done with everything....
