STILLEN SC: Has anyone ever heard of someone damaging their engine and...

using the Stillen engine warranty?

Clearly this is only applicable to Stage I and Stage II setups...

Check out this thread on my350z.com. It looks like there are some details in the warranty that don't make it so bulletproof as it sounds, but this person is only beginning the process. Hopefully he'll luck out and have his engine covered.

No Wes, not at all.

They will void warranty if the failure is attributed directly to a particular mod. If you blow an engine and the only mod you have is an HKS they won't void your entire warranty. That would be absurd. Same as they won't void your warranty if you put in a K&N filter instead of an OEM filter.

If you intall aftermarket speakers then your radio is no longer covered. But they can't tell you to take a hike if other problems arise that are not associated with the stereo.

Now, if you blow an engine with a supercharger, then of course, Infiniti will void your warranty.

But read the post. Stillen offers a warranty for your engine if you have a Stage1 or 2 supercharger from them. So if you blow the motor they claim they will replace it for you.

Clearly Infiniti would laugh, but that is not what I was asking.

bump!

Following that other thread as well!

Although it seems pretty stupid not to notify the warranty company as soon as the incident occurs. Waiting a few weeks might seem fishy in their eyes, even though we know this is not the case from reading the thread.

You know, honestly, theory and practice exist in two different worlds. Just because a company is supposed to honor your warranty, doesn't mean it'll always happen. Sometimes, I think it depends how lucky you are when it comes to mods.

Your warranty is a contract. If Infiniti voids your warranty for nefarious and otherwise unjustifiable reasons you have every right in the world to file suit.

You can be sure that this has happened many a time and if you do enough digging you can look up case law to justify your claim before a judge.

Sure, they don't HAVE to honor your warranty...just like you don't HAVE to follow the speed limit. Just be prepared to face the consequences

Basically the dealership has to prove that the modification is what caused the problem. For instance you have a CAI and your tranny takes a crap, they have to warranty it.

The dealership doesn't have to prove anything, because your warranty is with Nissan not them. Their repair facility is just that a separate facility that has a direct bill relationship with Nissan. They are happy to do any work for which they can get paid either by Nissan or you...........Simple.

If they don't think Nissan will reimburse them [pay their bill] they just refuse and tell you so. Up to you the owner to deal with Nissan regional people to get the approval.

So many don't have a clue how things really work, especially when difficulties are encountered.

The zone and regional people constantly travel around dealer to dealer listening to customer complaints and beating up on service managers who push the envelope by paying out to much under warranty and examining the dispute situations. Sometimes engineer will be sent to look at torn down engines or just piles of failed parts to make the final determination.

Almost no one sues in Federal Court as the wait can be years. Nissan has dozens of lawyers sitting around waiting for a chance to show what they know.

More people actually void their engine warranties from failure [to prove with legal receipts] to maintain level or change oil every 6 months or 7499.9 miles, than any after market mod.

I read that tonight too. Scares me! Fortunately, haven't heard of more than 2, maybe 3 who have blown their engines w/ the stillen kit. And with all the stillen owners here and on my350z.com, it probably fair to say that the kit is safe (relative) and reliable. Unfortunately, haven't been able to find any info on Stillen's response to a warranty claim.
