Vortech SC High maintenenace? double post

Hey sorry for posting this in the coupe section, but i would like to know. I was getting quoted for my TT setup and I asked them about the vortech kits they have for sale. They said they don't recommend them over the Twin turbo setup because the belts break / wear really easily / often. They said up to 1-2 a year, meaning your belt would break twice a year?! Is there any truth behind this?

They are feeding you a bunch of bull$hit . Very rarely do I ever hear about some one breaking a belt . I think your shop knows they can make more money off you buy you buying a TT kit from them and having it installed .
The TT is the better choice if your motor is built . The Vortech maybe a safer choice if not

i've only heard about belts breaking on a few occasions, but it is a possibility. You will have to tighten the belt more often than on a turbo car.

Most shops will ALWAYS recommend the more expensive and more labor intensive TT setup. They make more money from the kit and labor, and generally they always put up better numbers straight out of the box and have more hp potential down the road.

TT's are really nice setups, and they have their own set of possible issues. With a vortech, you'll have to pay more attention to the belt. That's just how it is.

Thanks for the replies guys, I also heard about the ball bearing going bad in the vortechs? I saw 3 posts relating to this i think earlier. I think I'll go with a tt kti for the potential HP down the road

8000+ miles since my turbo and only maintenance I have done is to get oil changes. I HEARD that with vortech, you have to clean some filter every oil change and it is a PITA to get to. Tightening belts, idle noises, and the loudness of the car with a high flowing exhaust...etc made me go turbo. Overall, I believe turbo is less work after the install.

they are both comparable when installed correctly, but both can have issues as well.

i broke a cog belt on the dyno the other day on a customers car, belt costs 15 dollars and takes about 5 minutes to replace.

vortechs slowly make power through the rpms and peak at the highest rpm you will go, turbos make a lot of power down low and some lose power up high.

i think that if you have the money, go with a nice TT setup. but you are talking a few thousands more. good luck with whatever you do!!
