Single turbo exhaust setup

Guys I need some vital information before I drop $$ on a turbo kit.

Can you mate a single turbo kit ie: Turbonetics or APS to a dual exhaust setup? I have the Injen True Dual Exhaust and I want to go with a single turbo setup but both of those kits have one outlet for the exhaust.

Can this be done and has anyone done this?

You can put a y splitter going from a single to a dual. . .but you may need to make it custom. I don't know any more specifics, but it can be done.

Don't you think that would be too restrictive on the exhaust? Too many pipe bends?

Just make it custom. Buy a used y-pipe and take it to s exhaust shop...shouldn't be more than $100 for them to customize it.

Air restriction is based on pipe diameter and length, not just bends. Bends cause turbulence, which does restrict flow, but you are not going to have horrible 90* bends in your pipes is my guess.

If you REALLY want to know all about it, you can read this:
http://ateam.lbl.gov/Design-Guide/DG...hydraulics.htm

(Sweet! I just pulled a Q45Tech!)

Bottom line is if you have a 3.5" pipe before the Y, and go split 2.5" pipes out the back, that would almost be equal flow throughout (not counting turbulence.)

Area at a section of 3.5" pipe = 9.6in^2
Area at a section of 2.5" pipe = 4.9in^2, then x2 pipes = 9.8in^2

I think the equation is MVA = M'V'A' (Mass of Air times Velocity of mass times Area flowing in has to equal the Mass of Air times Velocity of mass times Area flowing out).

Anyway, it IS possible, just to let you know.

Not 100% sure where the aps kit exits but iirc it exits same place where the tn kit exits..... where the stock y-pipe and mid-pipe connect. Any mufflershop can fab a reverse y up from scratch too, should be around $100. Here is one for a Borla....

I can't find my pics of the one I had for my Greddy Evo2.... Pretty simple, any shop will do it....

I'd go for a 3" single though, probably the best idea for performance.

I don't have a Y-pipe on mines. the Injen dual comes straight from the cats on the down pipe and then go straight back.

I may have to take the car to Gus at Japtrix and see what he says....

Have have a shop custom fabricate a 2.5"-3" pipe coming off the downpipe of the Turbo and splitting into dual 2.5" outlets that connect right up to your
Injen.

OR

Buy a used aftermarket y-pipe...most are 2.5" inlets and 3" outlet. Cut the pipe so the 3" outlet fits to the turbo downpipe and have an exhaust shop customize the rest of the pipe to match up to your Injen.
