Supercharger or Turbo???
Supercharger or Turbo???
Im going to be buying a 03-04 G35 coupe this summer, And looking into getting FI, so with the car being a Automatic and it will be an everyday car, what should i go with, i would say a Supercharger, but you guys know more than me.
Thanks.
Thanks.
well, IMO if you have an automatic, a vortech SC or ATI SC is a nice setup, because as soon as you put your foot down in drive mode, the car downshifts automatically and you're up in the high revs making high boost.
If you had a manual, I might be more tempted to say get a turbo kit or stillen supercharger where you might be more likely to feel the lower rpm torque

It all depends what you're looking for and how much $$ you're looking to spend. I have a stillen kit on the way, and imho, it works for me because the stillen kit gives you immediate response, although it does die out up above 5-6k rpms. Plus, as long as you stay conservative, you don't have to upgrade other parts of the car, ie: engine internals, tranny, fuels, exhaust, etc.

I'd say Stillen SC or conservative single turbo. Both will be pretty quiet until you go to get on it, so it won't interfere with your day to day activities in the car. With Stillen comes the hood, and lack of upgrades so ending whp will be lower then that of any other FI kit. Single turbo is enough to blow up stock engine and tranny if you want to go faster down the road.
Personally, I went with a centrifical SC because it made less torque then a turbo. ATI is still pretty upgradable

thing to be aware of, is the vortech and ATI superchargers out of the box are going to be pretty noisy and make rattling sounds unless you get your idle raised enough to get everything spinning fast though to kill the noises.
turbo will work fine as long as it's tuned well, but it's a little more tricky to dyno automatics from what I hear, even in manual mode they get weird dips and whatever in the turbo dynos i've seen so it could be trickier getting everything fine tuned. A SC would probably be easier to tune on an automatic, but you can get any setup to work if it's done right

with all these chrgers and turbos are there any other mods anyone has to do to the engine then getting the charger placed on or stock oem stuff can handle the chrgers on the cars like brakes and pads and rotters and brake lines does anything else melt i mean chargers are what 5 6 g's what about other parts are they necessary or you need the chargers and thats it let me know

At first, I just had the ATI on my other wise, stock engine. It was fun, she had her querks. I got a return fuel system and it smoothed things out alot for city driving [later on got massive injectors that killed idle and deceleration quality]. I went from the eManage Ultimate to the UTEC and that also did wonders for how the car ran in both stop and go driving, to freeway and long haul trips.
It depends on what you plan to do with the car as to if you need to upgrade the brakes and lines. I mainly do highway pulls and leave plenty of room to brake and the stock Infiniti brakes are satisfactory [non-Brembo]. If you do drag racing, depending on your power, you might want to get something like Brembos if your really worried about stopping at the end of the track- but have never heard of anyone with even non-Brembos having trouble stopping after a run. I wouldn't recommend back to back to back runs because of the heat you may biuld up and brake fade. If you are doing some sort of road racing on a longer track then I would think upgraded brakes, rotors, and lines would be a necessity because of the constant standing up on the brakes in corners.
Back to the engine, if you get it tuned right and have the right setups to control fuel and especially timing you shouldn't have an issue driving around everyday with any FI. I know of some guys on My350z.com with 50,000miles+ on their FI engines and haven't had any problems. Don't skimp out on the tuning... I learned the hard way on that

well ive been looking at a Vortech, with a valve body for the tranny, a intake spacer, or new plenum,dc headers, full exhaust, plugs, wires, ground kit.....ect just bolt on stuff, will that be good?
im only looking for like 350 hp, and 13's on a everyday automatic car, is this possible. thanks guys.

That's definately true, but there are guys who have blown their engine w/ simple bolt ons or just moderate FI. I don't understand why some guys can run high hp/tq numbers w/out problems, while others end up blowing their engine. Most don't have a problem, which is a good thing.
I was considering the Vortech too, but it's my understanding that it really doesn't give you much below 4k rpms. From 4k up to redline, it just hauls. Being that I have an auto, I decided to go w/ the stillen kit since it gives you more usable power in daily driving imho. However, as Sentry can probably tell you, w/ smaller pulleys, exhaust, ect, you can get way more power out of the vortech than the stillen.

hmm so you think stillen over vortech for everyday use and non valve body?....only thing is i gota buy a hood for the stillen, and well im not down with that but, hey if you gota buy it, i guess i will.
thanks.
thanks.
hehe you're all over the place with going back and forth, i'd really read lots more about the kits and people's impressions before making a quick decision. You'll be glad you did instead of getting something and finding out things you weren't expecting
