New To FI what do I need?

Hi, I was thinking that I want to boost my 2003 5AT G35. I was thinking single turbo. Do I need any other parts besides the turbo kit? How much do you think I will need to spend with labor and all? Also I forgot to mention that it is a daily driver.

Budget for 10k. For the 5at you'll need a few extras besides the basic kit.

For a successful BBQ, here is my secret. You need. . .are you ready? Ready? You need. . .really ready? You need. . .meat. . . . . .bread. . .. . . . .. . . . .and sauce.

j/k

If you have a high mileage engine do a compression check.
If you want the minimal cost, get your turbo kit. Make sure it has some kind of engine management, or you'll have to get that too.

Next, upgrade your torque converter and valve body. The TC can be configured for drag racing (straight line) or auto-x (windy roads). The VB will help your trans stay alive with the added torque output. If your trans fluid starts getting hot, you should add a larger transmission fluid cooler.

Next, if you want some peace of mind (and also for tuning purposes) you might want to invest in a wide band AFR gauge and sensor. To monitor for intake pressure leaks, you'll want to add a boost gauge. It can't hurt to add a fuel pressure guage too make sure you're getting adequate fuel pressure. A roundabout way to detect for detonation situations is to get a exhaust gas temp gauge.

If you are worried about your stock con-rods breaking (cuz they are weak), you may want to beef them up. . .but if you are going to pay to have the engine pulled apart, you may as well build up the entire bottom end and get it reinforced so you have the option to turn up the boost.

With that much power, you might also want to consider beefier rear axles and rear diff.

For traction reasons, you'll want to make sure that you get wider tires, but you'll need wider wheels too. To keep the wheels planted well, you might also want to consider a suspension upgrade.

Also, since you'll have that much more power, you'll want to be able to slow down better. . .so you might also want to consider a brake upgrade or big brake kit.

I don't think my list is completely all inclusive but here's a general idea for cost (yes, ballpark):

Single Turbo kit: $5000
Torque Converter: $500
Valve Body: $700
Install + tune: $3000ish?
Semi bottom line: $10k

For added piece of mind and "abuseable" power:
(The following don't include install time or retune cost)
Gauges: $1000ish
Engine build parts: $2500+ (you can really go off the deep end if you want but then you'll want to consider a total transmission rebuild, not just a VB upgrade)
Wheels + tires: $1500 - $6000 (to each his own)
Suspension: $1500
Big Brake Kit: $3000-$4000

Worst case, you get the bug and end up spending:
10k + 15k. . .so look for about $25000 to do everything well. Or just do the first part and don't completely abuse the car.

Have fun whatever you decide to do!

(I'm in the same dilema!)
