have a video of the car:
For those who have been curious how a "properly" set up vortech sounds at idle - there you go, there's no rattling, wobbling, squeeling, or vibration sounds, just the jet engine sounding whine from the blower. Bear in mind the camera is RIGHT next to the blower so of course it's gonna sound pretty loud in comparison to everything else
my idle is around 1300-1350 rpms, using the 2.87 pulley
You don't need to idle as high as I am though, 900-1000 rpms would do it. I idle that high mainly to make my ATS/carbonetics clutch easier to drive with
so anyway, just countering all those videos you've ever seen of the vortech making bad sounds at idle...

Sounds good. I need to change my idle as well, but I can live with a little rattle for now. My idle right now is right at 600. Is there any benefit of a lower idle?
lower idle saves just a little bit of gas, maybe a hair less wear and heat - though if it's cold outside, a higher idle will help warm things up quicker

So bascially there are no "unwanted noises" because of the raised idle? Thats awesome, I know this question must be asked to death but is there any other way besides going to the dealer to have it raised?

But you're using 2.87 Pulley
As far as I know the smaller pulley do eliminate the gurgling sound. This is for me very misleading coz majority dont use that size of a pulley. Idle raise does also help for people who uses stock pulley.

Well im currently upgrading to the 3.12 pulley, anyone with some feedback on how that sounds compared to the stock pulley?

Hahaha yeah thats me lol. When I first had it installed it was pretty quite at idle, but I think after time my belt started to stretch out and it started with the infamous rattling sound at idle. Kel (G45 project did my install). I got a new belt (I was using the belt for the 3.12 on the stock pulley), and a 3.12 pulley getting it installed at ATX so Im kinda anxious to see/hear how it sounds now. Im wondering if the shop can raise my idle...Originally Posted by AthenG

the 3.12 helps with rattle and the 2.87 pulley helps even more, but mainly raising the idle is the big thing to do. Anyway, everyone should be running the 3.12 pulley at least anyway since the 3.33 one is so weak...IMO
The options to raise the idle are
- go to the dealer, pay $30-80 to have it raised
- get a UTEC and raise it
- get an Fcon V-pro and raise it
- get a cipher OBDII unit (sold on altered atmosphere's site) and raise it
- wait for the Cobb tuning ECU tuning OBDII programmer to raise it
-possibly drill a small 1/8 inch hole in your throttle body plate...take caution and be careful though...

Great, ATX is a good shop and Narvin is the Man. If I end up in your neck of the woods I'll probably meet up with you to check your car

Keep us updated.

Yeah Narvin is cool. Body work from the accident is pretty much done. Mechanical stuff, and dyno tuning is probably going to be done Monday or tuesday. I cant wait!Originally Posted by AthenG
