Well, if you're being serious, CARB legal just means the product must pass emission tests.

If you get caught with a product that is not carb legal such as any turbo setup, they WILL make you go back to stock, or atleast to something card legal.

This means that if you get caught with an aftermarket turbo in cali, you will have to spend thousand just for labor & parts.

.

Bro....he's in New Hampshire. I don't think he has to worry about emissions the way that we do out here in Cali. If I lived there...I would be like...the only CARB I know of is the hole in the side of my pipe! LOL

also,

2) carb legal? Im sorry but I dont understand what that means
1)The GReddy kit is a nice kit but isn't as safe or reliable right out of the box like the JWT kit is. The GReddy kit tends to make stock engines go BOOM on a more regular basis. Jim Wolf has been trying to get this kit CARB approved which is very difficult in Cali. So they designed an efficient kit that that can make up to 400rwhp relatively safely. From what I have been told, it is the best designed kit for a stock motor on the market today.
2)CARB=California Air Resource Board They are the ones responsible for making aftermarket parts legal in Cali. If they don't approve it, it isn't legal to drive on the streets in Cali.

That's a good idea. You go to Zcar and they'll push Vortech cos they've done alot of those and not authorized JWT dealer. Rob did same thing to me scare me away from TT cos of CARB. You go to VRT and they'll push JWT and want you to build your engine. GTM does them all and better reputation than both shops.

It all comes down to what;'s important to u:
carb? power? reliablity? power? noise?

I went w/ the JWT cos of noise...thinkin that the SCs are alot more noticeable cos of their noise. You could always hide gauges in cubby. Your should change your poll to be 'How many TT owners who have been ticketed for CARB'. I havent heard of too many. I figure going F1 is a risk anyways...so FTW!!!

Believe it or not, I have seen many more SC's blow up stock motors than I have seen a properly tuned JWT TT kit, so that is my first point.

My second point would be that If you put the CARB sticker from the JWT Pop Charger (like we do) on the kit than if/when you ever got pulled over you could gladly show the nice officer (who 99.9% of the time) doesn't even know what they are looking at/for. The intercooler is almost invisable when heat painted flat black, there is no way to even see the turbo's, and the kit is so quiet with the re-circ valve (no BOV). I have explained to the authorities before that it was a fancy cold air induced intake system and "Here is the CARB # on the sticker" "have a nice day" hahaha, Its that simple. So as long as you keep your catalitic converters on, and all the stuff I mentioned, there should be no real worrie about getting pulled over and ticketed for the JWT TT kit. trust me. Oh, and as for the SMOG tests go. With a new car, you will not ever have to have a SMOG test for 4-6 years and I don't know about you, but that is a long enough time for me to not ever have to worrie about it and just enjoy the TT'ed car

That is my .02 cents.

Either way Hex, We install anything and everything FI under the sun, so I have no real reason to push one FI kit over another. All of these Kits are good in their own little way (just some better in most ways than others)

I am looking forward to doing FI on your beautifull, brand new, blue G. I just want you to be well informed and happy with your decision, and this is comming from someone that HAS OWNED them ALL (TT and SC's)

hexx you've been on here for a while and a fellow ab owner so ill add my 2c. its all how much you want to spend. i see no reason doing the 530bb jwt on a stock engine vs a vortech when you'll be close to the same power with less hassle and $. even if you want to upgrade later, save up and do it right. now if you want to spend $20-30k then i absolutely recommend the 730bb jwt with a built short block. my buddy just got 1 done at forged performance in atl and damn that car is a beast.

^^^Thanks bro. I appreciiate your $.02 from one AB owner to another. And that's basically what I have decided to do. In all practicality, the Vortech setup just makes the most sense. I was able to break things down with Sam @ GTM and the pros and cons favor the Vortech for my specific situation. The JWT TT kit is awesome but is just a bit more than what I am looking for and not CARB legal which is a big deal to me hear in Cali. If I was in Florida, I would build my block and TT the shiet out of my car. But I am not so I have to worry about our strict a$$ emissions regulations. So at this point I am now 99% sure I am going with the Vortech.

I live in Atlanta, and it's 2 years...I'm up for a smog check this winter and I have an 05.

If you're worried about passing an emissions test, check your local laws.

As far as reliability is concerned, all boost apps have risk. The more boost you push, the more strain you'll put on the engine and risk detonation. This is why TT appear to have more catastrophic engine failures...they simply produce more boost. A good tune is what will save your butt.

well congrats on the vortech man! im sure you'll enjoy it. i went through the same debate and all it came down to was which 1 i had the $ for. i cant afford either so its all good haha. its good to see so many fi g's though. seems in the 4 years now a lot more people have moved up. funny story - we took some night pictures at zdayz on top of the damn and out of the 15 cars only 4 were n/a. just amazing.
