Question for Minimalists (Gauges & Pods)
Question for Minimalists (Gauges & Pods)
I've spoken with Rob from Zcargarage in San Jose about installing a S/C and the only thing I'm concerned about at this point is the Gauges for Oil Press, Air/Fuel, Water Temp. and so on. I was wonder if there was a single digital unit that can consolidated everything into one piece. I would like to keep my interior as clean and uncluttered as possible. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have mine mounted in the ashtray.

For A/F a Zeitronix in the sunglass holder may work. I found the digital numbers hard to read during boost vs a dial and bigger digital readout like the Innovate.
Just remember the point of the guages...to monitor your car. Having something in the ash tray will be hard to keep your eyes on while driving. Have you considered using the spot where the NAV pops out? You could keep it very clean, or even have something that can be hidden when parked...
It can do
oil pressure
fuel pressure
oil temp
water temp
EGT
speed
Does not do boost on the lower display, but the control unit II has a turbo connection. Here's the manual. http://www.nengun.com/doc/nengun-004...nual06064e.pdf
Sweeping gauges for boost and A/F and possible fuel pressure depending on your fuel system are easier to work with. Oil pressure is much better for some than a sweeping fuel pressure gauge.

Thanks again for the information, I understand that the pods are in place to help monitor the car's conditions but I don't believe in pods that bop you on your head as your getting in and out of your car, I'm pretty tall, so I would like to stay away from those as much as possible

Here is a write-up I did a little while ago about the gauges Rob set-up in my G. It's an option - worked for me - check it out - ask him about it.
OK, so let me share one of my favorites – the motorized in-dash instrument cluster. As I mentioned earlier I like the “stealth” mode. So the set-up is that there is a hidden toggle switch in the center console that allows me to active the gauge cluster on demand. The unit itself fits perfectly where the stock navigation unit would be and the cover material and color is exactly the same as the factory dash. Push the toggle and up comes this gauge cluster out of the dash fully functional – being both analog and digital. Another nice touch is if you look close on the gauges you will see the ZcarGarage logo – pretty cool.
Words just don’t do this justice so I have tried to make a video to show you. Be nice, this is my first attempt. Here is the link:

Even though it is a CARB legal Vortech kit, he does have the authority to pull you over just to see whether or not it's an illegal TT kit.
There's no single perfect solution. I looked high and low. W/ the Defi, you get most stuff, and is the closest solution, w/ alarms and all, but you still need a boost gauge. Aargh.
Zeitronix can't monitor temps (other than EGT) or pressures but it has the boost.
I eventually ended up with just 2 A pillar gauges (dual gauge pod) - running programmable XD16 innovate gauges and my car PC screen (in navi area) that shows all the sensors.
I never thought I'd get an a pillar solution, but the 2 gauge version is not all that bad and it is really the only solution you can keep an eye on while driving.

Here's my boost gauge. nOtice how it is mounted from behind. very trick and OEM looking.
: I have had a couple dealerships ask me if I would manufiacturer that gauge holder, and I am currently looking into making more of them. I would probably make a holder that would allow from mounting of the gauges as only this DEFI works for such a clean rear mount install.

Here's my Fuel pressure and A:F gauges:

The overall feeling is that of a stock interior when I don't want people to see the gauges.
