For 5AT drivers considering FI...

A 5AT 350Z owner who just got a Procharger posted this notice on my350z.com. I thought you guys might be interested in reading it, as it probably applies to our G's:

<blockquote><font class="small">In reply to:</font><hr>

Please let me know if you have noticed similar symtoms.

When I purchased my car, it shifted perfectly. (clean and crisp)There were no issues shifting. As I started modifying my car the shifts became slower or lazy. Finally on my last mod,(the ATI Procharger) my car became undrivable in full auto mode under full boost. In order for my car to shift gears, I had to drive in manual shift mode. Granted under normal driving situations it was capable of shifting but did not work at WOT.

Today I contacted Jon at Level 10. I ordered the hydrosystem mod. Basically you send in your valve body and they recalibrate it. This will provide, harder quicker shifts for 5AT Z owners that have modded their car or plan on doing so.

I will let you know the results as soon as my car is completed. The price is firm at $698 for the hydrosystem upgrade but if 5-10 others get it as well the price may drop.

For those that are interested, call and ask to speak with Jon as he is familiar with this car and our situation. Level 10's phone number is 973-827-1000.

Hopefully this post will help other 5AT owners.

Re: For 5AT drivers considering FI...

i'm not sure if this is relevant, but there is a torque converter by edge racing that should be compatible with the 5 a/t (gurgen has it). plus, the 5 a/t can be retrofitted with tranny coolers and lsd's if you want.

also, does anyone know what a stall convertor is? i'm sure someone here does. a lot of people with supra tt's running high hp (400+ whp with just boltons), and running the stock 4 speed auto, build their trannies with "stall convertors" and those seem to make the trannies last. anyone know what this is?

Until you have a turbo coversion in your car the upgraded TC will do nothing for you. With a stock converter you can only build a low amount if any boost at the line while standing on the brakes. Raising the stall in your TC will allow you to launch w/ a decent amount of boost. It also depends on what size/trim wheel/ housing your turbo has. And as far as the valve body mod goes, all that does is make your tranny shift harder instead of flairing up or O/D dissengagement. Level10 is a good company as is Pro Torque out of NY, I'd recommend there PTS kit also. Will make your A/T G handle several humdred hp more that your stocker. IF a kit is even made yet. I had there valve body kit/ PTS, and TC for my turbo eclipse 400+whp 4 cyl. 12.5 @119....A/T mind you.

Azn - Try this thread - https://g35driver.com/forums/showthr...age=&view=&sb=

Also, I have to disagree with "B" about the value of a T/C ( as I'm sure that Gurgen & DaveO will also ) on a non-boosted car. My T/C ( as modded by Level 10 ) allows my N/A G35 to launch MUCH harder than the stock one. The engine now flashes into it's powerband from a WOT dead-stop takeoff so my acceleration is better. The same thing happened in my GS400 with a higher stall T/C. The additional value IS as "B" describes. The tranny can now handle more power since the Level 10 work because they beefed up the internals of the converter. This bodes well for the future long term use of a T/T; S/C or nitrous. I should have my spray installed by early March ( going with Texas Nitrous ).
