5AT Upgrade w/ Boost

I've really wanted to pull the trigger on the new Tranny from SGP (I think) Racing. It seems to me a new Auto tranny would be a better way to go than just upgrading the VB.

So I'm going to poll the audience, What do you think I should do?

Should I drop the 4k + 500$ install for a new tranny, and just sell my old one
(Mind you, I had to pay for it because my last one took a crap)

Or should I just buy a VB/Torque converter/Cooler for it.

What have you done, what do you think.

For you dolts who say convert to stick-- click alt+f4 I'm not paying 10k for that, And I don't regret buying a 5AT

Domo baby

with turbos, you may as well go full tranny build. The SGP one includes the valve body upgrade, and I think it was listed for $3000? After that, you should be bomb-proof until you snap an axle or grind up your rear diff.

~SGP Racing Automatic Transmission Upgades
SGPATRACERegular price: $4,089.00Sale price: $3,829.00

That's a lot of money.

A new VB would be 1,000 With labor (after core exchange if i do level10)

I wouldn't even bother with a level10 or stillen anymore. I've been researching this on and off for 3 years.

A VB job shouldn't cost more than $100-$200 to install. That means the level10 one you are looking at is $800? If you are spending this much, you MAY as well dish out an extra $200 for better performance and protection. $1000 for SGP and if you have any skills, you can do it yourself. Even if not, it should only be ~$1200 to remove/install the VB.

Is that SGP price straight up... or does it require a core?

That price is just for the upgrade, not a new tranny altogether.

I decided to go with GTM's new package - won't have my car back for a few weeks yet so can't really give you a review but they revamped every aspect of it from clutches, bands, valve body, cooling, torque converter, etc...

yes it will. but the real question is do u have a built block? If not, I would rather use the money for the built tranny for VB and pistons/rods.

In that situation right now, yes I have a built block by GTM and yes I have an upgraded TC and VB by the same shop but I know for sure that next year I will be upgrading the tranny internals from Sam also.

Also aiming for around 500rwhp.

hey urban, whats the benifits of having the tq converter? Does it protect the tranny bc all I thought they do was help u brake boost from the start.

Not just helps at the take off but you are also producing more trq. throughout the power band so it helps there too. It is also the cheapest of the 2 items to upgrade, I think edge racing charge something like 400 for the upgrade. I also think the 3829 price for the whole package from SGP is not bad at all as it includes free shipping. The cost is mostly going to be labor to install all the setup.
