I don't mean to get into a war of words, so sorry if i come off that way.
But the difference between those who help members from their garages at home, and what VRT is doing, is that VRT is running an actual shop at home. As previously stated, there are zoning laws, environmental laws, etc to be considered. What VRT is doing goes beyond "Do-it-yourself in the comfort of your own home"...additionally, someone on that thread stated that there are other regulations to be considered, especially due to the vast amount of cars kept on that premises.

I missed the thread about AAM, so I'm not sure exactly what it was about, but I've had nothing but good experiences with them - they built my G. They built my buddy's old 3000GT SL a while back too, he had the first FWD 3000GT with twin-turbos installed. He had great experiences with them too. I guess I can see how some people may think their prices are a little high, but when it comes to cars, do people really expect to get the lowest price possible, without any kind of effort? I go into a deal (be it buying something online or physically at a shop) assuming I can get a better price if I negotiate. And I usually try to. Sometimes I pull it off, sometimes I don't. As for blown motors, come on guys. There's an inherent risk with ANY kind of major power upgrade, be it Nitrous, FI, a built motor. Do people really expect to throw on a TT kit pushing 10 psi of boost and 100 shot of nitrous and have nothing ever go wrong? I'm just running a Vortech with a 3.12 pulley and I've accepted the fact that either my transmission or my motor is going to have a major problem at some point and it's gonna cost major money to fix. It's the law of complex systems, the more components there are, the more chances there are for something to break. Now if 50 out of 100 cars they've worked on blew a motor, that's a different story, but I doubt that's the case.

VRT had some happy customers also . AAM had a habit of not telling guys that brought thier Vortech cars to get tuned , that they were going to flash the ECU for the tune and not use the SS box . Then after tuning , going to the customer and telling them they needed a return fuel system to make it safe up top [ going to lean after 6000rpm ] The poor guy then had to spend another $1200 to $1500 for AAM to install that . Then charge them to re-tune the car again . This whole time , tuning with the SS box could have given them a safe , easy , and cheap way to get it done . This was done to countless guys . 6 or 7 of the poor guys PMed me asking for advice . Then you have the return fuel system they sell . Its was a piece of crap . I dont know if they started to use different fuel lines . But at the time the fuel lines they used leached out fuel and your garage smells like a fuel spill every day . And this is second hand and only hear say , but thier engine building was questioned from several guys with blown built motors also.
Bad shops dont screw up every car

If the claims are true though, there's a really simple way to avoid all of those problems:
Get a written estimate in advance.
Sounds like these guys did the equivalent of taking your car to the dealership and checking the little box that says "I authorize Infiniti to install any parts necessary and I am financially responsible for said parts".
In most states, shops can't deviate from the work on the written estimate without explicit approval from the owner.
