Found this....
The line [hose] thats hooks up to these catch cans...iis this the one that Vortech originally has hooked up to the air filter? Crank case breather hose right ? If so . why not just vent it open to the air . Ive never ever had anything come out of it . I see these catch cans as eye candy , nothing more .

Mine catches about 2-3 ounces of blow-by every month - 6 weeks. I drive the car REALLY hard as well.
When racing a bunch - or on the dyno - it can pull 1 ounce alone. I'd much rather catch that crap then let it burn through the intake. You'll realize the true octane of the gas you put in, run cooler, as there wont be oil coating the inside of the intake - and plugs last longer.
After I installed mine - just about 2 months ago, I also removed the plenum and cleaned it out, and checked it actually about 2 weeks ago. It was perfectly clean, no oil in the valley at all. The car also tuned more reliably and I gained about ~2 MPG...

WHEN MINE WAS ORIGINALLY HOOKED UP TO THE vORTECH AIR FILTER . I had crud in the plenum also . But since then I just let the hose hang under the car . And I never had oil on the belly pan where the hose is . Hmmmm
i don't see how a catch can hurts
it's not like they cost much
to me, a catch can is a preventative item. Not something you buy when you finally someday realize you must've been having lots of blow-by for who knows how long. Getting any at all and not having the protection of a catch can will only potentially mess up the engine. Also venting straight to air is fine until you start getting blow by and it gets the engine bay dirty and you might smell burning oil thinking there's something really wrong when there's no need for a false alarm
I have yet to get much blow-by, but at the same time I'm not so cheap that I'll refuse to spend $100 on a catch can for my fairly expensive car

Did you have crud in the intake pipes as well before you disconnected it, and how is it now?
Thanks!!!

Okay if the ppl that says this didnt work, do a little researh and you will surprise the things that this mod benefits your car especially if it is TT or SC. of course, if it is done right. I see so many threads about oil comsuption,, so i think here is , maybe, part of your answer.
This one has a breather element inside, so it retains the oil that comes in from the crankbase and also filtrates the air, because from the crankbase comes the oil in gases ( HC ) and oil. This double catch can do both things internaly ( enviromental and gas octanage friendly )this gases returning to the intake hit your octanage and density of your charge. And if you put this hose to the air, you will lose vacuum on the engine an it maybe will cause additional problems in the engine.
I do a very extensive research over this forums and other forums and also found this...http://cjsupra.kendra.com/PCV-Can.html
this one breaths to the outside true the K&N filter on top. In this link this guy explains how this works out very well. this link was from a very large thread about this issue but it was inconclusive about wich one is the best option on this.
