Heat shielding turbos

My Greddy TTs put out a lot of heat. Would it be bad to wrap them or is it better to put a heat shield around the other stuff? I have seen pictures of other turbos where the exhaust part of the turbo was completely wrapped in a heat blanket - it looked like a good idea, but does the turbo need the heat to escape?

Mine too. Buy heat blankets and cut them to fit or wrap the mani's and turbos with thermal wrap the best you can. You might want to wrap the downpipes as well. Thats the best you can do I think. Too bad there not water cooled.

Yeah I wish they were water cooled. Is it safe to put heat wrap on them? I have never seen anyone do it with the Greddy or APS kits.

I grabbed this picture from this thread: See Thread
It seems simple enough and looks good. Will it trash the turbo?

That is the one for the turbonetics. I think the main reason for that is to help not mess up the paint on the hood but I could be wrong.

I don't care why they do it; I just want to make sure all my wires and hoses don't get cooked.

I've got blankets on mine with plans to wrap the downpipes. In addition to containing heat, this would in theory help the turbos spool faster as more heat energy is being conserved. Hopefully that makes sense to most of you cause I don't feel like giving a lesson in thermodynamics.

They sell those turbo blankets specifically for the 18g's, but does anyone know if in the long run there would ever be a problem with frying seals or something like that from excessive heat?

+1

If you still have a link could you post it.

I think they would be ok as long as you always made sure to allow a proper cool down.

Yeah but for $300 and not even the right size... I would rather just get some nice universal stuff and make my own.
