My supercharger went bad too!

I'm feeling Hex's pain, my Vortech went bad too. Not even 2800 miles on it. Long story short, it started off as some rattling then quickly transitioned into a constant "scream" (as opposed to the normal whine). It sounded like a dying cat, so loud it was deafening to stick my head in the engine bay. Took it to AAM and they verified that it was defective - not sure exactly what the problem is, but we're going through the whole tech support process with Vortech.

Figured I'd let everyone know, it's beginning to look like there's a bad batch out there.

you guys should document the sound on video because a loose belt sounds like a dying cat as well.

Vortech's warranty is top notch bro. Just have the shop send it in to Vortech and they will get it back to you ASAP. BTW, my issue had nothing to do with the belts or the bearings. Mine was the actual SC and the sound was a high pitched metal on metal type of sound. I wouldn't descibe it as a dying cat though. In any case, just have your shop get an RA # and send the charger in to Vortech ASAP. Good luck bro.

I sent mine back and had it back in about 3 weeks. Just put it back on Saturday and my car is loving the cold weather! Good luck on the repair.

It definitely wasn't metal on metal like Hex's, mine is pretty hard to describe. If you imagine the pitch level of the normal whine, this was probably about 50-60% higher. If you had a recording of a normal Vortech, and turned the bass all the way down, and the treble all the way up, and increased the volume, that's probably what mine sounds like.

Good to hear they're treating you well man, hopefully they'll do the same for me. AAM is convinced it's the SC, they've already taken it off, just waiting on Vortech and then it's off to them.

I am right about 9.8 at redline. I have more breathing mods then you (i.e. headers) so I should be hitting less, but keep in mind I am revving to 7k . I had a chance to race a C6 before my blower went out and lets just say he wasn't a happy camper, lol. So when are me and you going to run for some fun?

So it looks like the SC was shipped out to Vortech last week. Hopefully the turnaround time will be quick. I guess the only good thing about this is that it happened sooner rather than later. If the SC was defective, better to die quickly and get it replaced under warranty. I'm kind of surprised it didn't go 1 day after the warranty was up, that's my typical luck ;-)

You are looking at about 3 weeks based on recent Vortechs that have been sent in.

for the price they charge and make, I am sure their warranty is top notch otherwise the name of Vortech will be down the drain fast.

^VORTECs SC's are just fine.. small amounts of problems considering the number of units they've sold
