APS ST problems/ issues

I'm running an APS ST w. unichip on an 04 G35 coupe w. a stock block. I've been having some problems and couldn't find anything too helpful so I decided to make this thread! Well here goes...

(1) When i start my engine on a cold start, it starts up fine. When it is warm, the engine catches but immediately the rpm gauges falls to zero and the car dies.

(2) While I'm driving, especially when I stomp on it, I get a huge amount of blue-ish white smoke from my exhaust. Burning oil right? How can you fix this?

(3) While I'm driving when I hit about 4-6k rpm it sounds like my turbo is vibrating against something and making some kind of metal vibrating noise.

(4) My fuel meter says I'm empty, and when I go to the gas station to fill up, it only lets me fill up halfway.

(5) When I'm flooring my G, the boost kicks in around 3.5k rpm and around 6 the boost suddenly wears off completely. My UEGO gauge says that I'm running pig rich. Will a tune fix this?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not a expert, but you got some serious issues, if your burning oil, your turbo may be leaking it and spitting it out. Also, I would probably consider ditiching the unichip and getting a utec along with getting it tuned. Maybe your car is spitting too much fuel into engine and its not burning fast enough, I think that's what causes it to be rich, I'm not too sure. But I would seriously consider taking it to a performance shop to have them look at it, your description of the issues can really mess your whole car up. Good luck!

This thread would be much better in the forced induction section.

You have a number of problems and need to take it to an APS dealer to look at.

Sounds like a bad tune-- happens to be, because of a bad tune... as far as the stalling.

After really reading the thread, you are running without a tune. what the **** are you thinking.

LOL, I'm at school right now and had a local shop in the area install the turbo. There aren't any tuners over here in champaign - urbana. The next time I'm back at home in chicago, I was gonna take it in for a tune. I was told that for the time being, as long as I don't overdo anything I should be fine...

yeah? You also hear about the guy who drove his TN ST 7 miles and blew his block.

You better not be going over 3k rpms or putting more than a few pounds of boost.

on Number 4, lots of G have that problem. the dealer should take care of that under warranty. unless the person who installed everything screwed something up w/ the fuel pump

Like everyone has already said, a good tune will take care of some of the problems. My car did the staling thing before my tune (not running an APS). Now it runs fine.

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Definately sounds like a case of a poor install (fuel level sensor not working properly), and generally weirdness with respect to the tune.

Who did the install? GRD is pretty good with APS stuff, and they are in the Chicago area. I am sure they could get it sorted out for you.

speed source did the install. we found out what the problem was. i bought the kit used from a friend, and the shop that took it out forgot to send some part that is supposed to pump the oil out of the turbo. Got it coming in the mail soon, so it looks like i'll get my car around wed. As far as the tune goes i'll be taking it up to GRD in a week or so...

thanks for all the help!!!
