Building it up.

Hey everyone,

I've been kinda out of it for a while. Honestly, just lost interest in throwing my money away, but I really want to get this tranny thing done.

Back to the dead horse-- How far will a VB + 3500 stall TQ + Cooler take me WHP wise without slipping or owning itself.

It's simple- but I need to get this done, before I can spend more money on making it look cool.

I'd like more of someone who has a 5AT with VB upgrades to chime in- instead of "Yeah I think 4xxhp is the max"

Thanks.

You should PM " roncfpz " about this as he has pretty much everything done for an AT. You need to worry about your engine/tune first and foremost if you really want to see how far you want to push things.

Although I have a Vortech , Im running 20+ psi of boost with a TC and VB and its holding fine . I dont have but 3 thousand miles on the set up because of belts and a need for a EMS . I had the tranny set up on for a while running 13psi and 420whp for around 4 thousand miles before that though .

Good question Jtrain, because by the time you spend the money on the VB, Torque converter, and tranny cooler + install, you are at the point where you might just want to thrown out the extra cash and buy a built tranny that is basically guarenteed to hold the power. I belive on one of this sites with VB, they say that the tranny can handle 450whp with a VB, but I wouldnt trust those numbers. Also Jtrain, I sent you a PM back, check ur PM box.

^+1!

Spend a little extra and be safe. That's why I think I'm going to sleeve my motor.

When you read that a VB will allow your stock tranny to handle 400+ HP, make sure you ask them how they are going to back that up. Having been down the wrong side of that road, I would bet they offer no guaranties at all - other than for the VB. You will be on your own to replace the tranny. If I had to do it again, I would just get a built tranny up front.

it buckles bc of the hard shift everytime at 3rpm in D. If I drive under 3K rpm it wont buckle (jerk the car) but once I put alittle throttle to 3K rpm I can feel the jerking.

U got those numbers from SGP's site. HP isnt what kills the tranny but the tq. Also your tranny with the SGP VB should be able to hold at least 360lb and maybe up to 400lb tq without upgrading the clutch pads (i'm at 360lb tq and have no issues...knock on wood).

If u are making more than 400lb tq I'm sure the tranny would still be okay unless u do a lot of downshifting on the freeway where it lands u right at your peak tq. I would also invest in a tranny temp gauge to be on the safe side so u know when to back off if the temps reach +210

I feel nothing of what you talk about . I get a hard 1st to 2nd shift that is to hard at lower rpms . Other than that I am pleased as hell with it . Best mods for the tranny I could have made . I also have a cooler too .

I have a built stage 3 tranny (VB,TC and internals) and the 2 oil coolers on my 5AT. So far pushing 400hp 440trq at 9psi but just dropped it off yesterday for the 14-15psi tune.

All I get is hard shifts when changing up and hard shifts from 4th to 3rd when it changes down.

So u dont feel a jerking pull like when a stick shifts gears? What rpm is the hard shift from 1-2nd gear bc now I'm confuse on what the definition of a hard shift is bc I thought the jerking motion was it?

The harder you drive the harder the shifts are, for example the way I drive daily is very easy and I leave it in Auto so the car shifts earlier and you don't feel the jerk to each gear but if I get aggresive then the shifts are a little harder, especially the 3rd to 4th. Now when Sam took it for a spin yesterday he put it in Manu mode and floored the car and shifted at 6k from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd and the shifts are hard and chirp the tires.
