Well there is really no way to know what base stock(group III or IV) an oil is made from. There is speculation over at the bobistheoilguy forums that both German Castrol 0w-30(it says "Made in Germany" on the back) and M1 0w40 are both group IV oils based on the fact that they sheer very little over time. These are both very good oils and are at the top of my list for favorite oils. Shell Rotella T-synth 5w-40 and Mobil Delvac 1 aka Mobil 1 5w-40 Turbo Diesel Truck are both great HDEO's and will perform very well for a FI VQ. If you really want to learn some things about oils head over to bobistheoilguy.com and read in the forums. IMHO if you only use an oil for 3k miles then a dino HDEO in 10w40 or 15w50 depending on climate and season will be the best economical choice. For peace of mind go with the previously mentioned synthetics if price isn't an issue. But most important of all is to read about some oils over at the forum and get your own oil analysis done and find the right oil for YOU!

 

Damn, 0w-40 is some hard stuff to find sometimes. But I got some coming in next Wed.

 

after looking at quadcams finding on my350z, yes motul is not the most effective.

are there studies on the sheering of the oil, because I would expect more wear is done at full boost where egts are 1200 oppose to cold starts and stops(where my cars kept in a heated garage and turbo timer for adequate cool down time). I do not drive the car in boost all the time but when I get into it I'm boosting for over 45 minutes at a time( in and out of boost without any babying of engine). I am not trying to be argumentative or smart just trying to see other aspects of the argument. thanks for the info

Yes. I read a few years ago about oil priming pumps that circulate the oil helping lubricate the parts before it before you start. Can't recall if it was a universal application or not though.

 

Accusump is one such unit it pre oils your engine prior to start up and if under hard cornering you lose oil pressure the accusump maintains your oil pressure for a short period of time. It is a universal system.

 

Motul 400v. But recently, I found a place that had German Castrol 0w-30 and purchased ALL of it. lol.

My shop is telling me to use Mobil 1 5W-30, with my Turbonetics kit. I trust them, just wanted to see what others thought about that oil?

 

Well, just from reading the UOA thread, it seemed to me that Mobil 1 5w-30 was not the best performing oil out there for our engine.. I went with Mobil 1 0w-40 because it had better results.. and when I was still NA I used Castrol GTX, because that also seemed to be a better choice than Mobil 1 5w-30. I'd say take a look at that thread and see what you think...

 

+1 Read that oil analysis thread in MY350z and do you own analysis. It only cost $22 to do the analysis so go do it!

I know your shop and they have proven to be a great shop and I have great respect for them. There are a few things that I disagree with them but do your own research and take it from there.

 

+2 I would only use that oil on my NA car not on an FI car.
