Cam Gear

I have a 06 G35 Sedan TT Built bottom end Cosworth Heads 600 rwhp I have 5000 miles since built, been running great. Here is my problem the other day it started running like crap, had a code for random multible miss fire. took it to my mechanic and he found that the exhaust cam gear on bank 1 broke. it has a spring tentioner on it and the spring broke. Anyone else heard of this or had it happen. the new one from the dealer is 750 dollars cause you have to buy the entire unit and the cover this is crap any advice.
