FI-Compatible NA Mods

I'm eventually going to get a Twin Turbo, but in the meantime, I'd like to load up on some NA mods. I've done some research on this forum and on my350z, and I'm trying to assemble a list of what NA mods one could keep with an FI car. Here is what I've come up with so far:

Compatible
-Exhaust
-Camshafts
-High Flow Cats
-ECU (will have to be reflashed, but still..)
-Torque Converter (5AT)

Incompatible:
-Headers
-Intake/Popcharger/Z Tube

Unsure
-Plenum
-Flywheel
-Pulleys

There are probably errors and/or omissions in the list. Would anyone more knowledgable care to revise it?

Re: FI-Compatible NA Mods

your tranny will not shift at WOT with FI. Might think about getting a new tranny. Also, auto tranny's don't use flywheels.lol.
Also, the cost of labor involved in installing cams are pretty high, why not get some lower compression pistons, titanium retainers and valves while you're in that territory? It will probably cost $1500+ just in labor to install those internals. Another $2000+ for install/tuning your TT's. I hope you're rich.

no need for a new tranny, but u are right it wont [censored] at WOT. You will need to get the techno square ECU to raise the rev limiter and that will give the auto enough time to make a clean [censored]. The car will shift in manual mode though.

Good luck

Re: FI-Compatible NA Mods

hey dollar99,

I've been thinking about the same thing... trying to get some NA mods that are compatible with FI since I am not sure which way I will go...

You have RT cats right? what is the pipe diameter?
what kind of exhaust do you have?

think those cats + fujitsubo would be alright for a TT setup?

Re: FI-Compatible NA Mods

Not sure about cams on turbo. If you do, you cannot go with the high duration ones. You are pretty much restricted to the Nismo cams (256 degrees i believe). The tomei 26x degree cams a big no no. You can't have the overlap on FI with cams. They pretty much have to be higher lift, and no change in duration (ideally). That's how I understand it. I would personally not spend money on cams, that's not going to be a limiting factor by any meaningful means. Also, if you do cams, the rest of the engine is a must, as the pressure on the rods will be VERY high. I would do cams IF I had the money AND I was doing the rest of the engine!! Then you can REALLY throw down some power.
