How much could I get for a new VQ35 non-revup if selling?

Hey all,

I'm doing the oil consumption testing now and may very well get a new VQ35 in a few thousand miles. The thing is, I'm heavily considering buying a built motor so I can get to 550rwhp in my G. So I'd need to either swap my VQ with the installer or pay a $2000 core charge.

So I've got a few options as I see it:
  • Just stop the oil consumption test and get the built motor, trading my oil consuming engine (installer's cool with this).
  • Finish the OC testing, get denied a new motor and do #1 above after all.
  • Finish the OC testing, get the new VQ, and trade it to the installer to avoid the core charge.
  • Finish the OC testing, get the new VQ, and sell it for more than the $2000 core charge to make some money back.
  • Finish the OC testing, get the new VQ, and keep it as a backup if/when I blow my built motor.
I like the option of keeping my new factory VQ as a backup, but it will cost me an additional $2000. I really don't have a garage or anywhere to put the thing anyway. So just wondering if anyone knows how much I'd be able to sell a newly built factory VQ for? If it's not much more than $2000, I'll probably just stop the OC test now and get the built motor.

I'd appreciate your feedback, guys!

-B

I'd have the warranty repair sheet I suppose...not sure if the dealer would give me a "certified new engine" doc or not.

Hmmm....it'd only be the short block since my installer will need the rest of my setup for the built motor. Still, I'd think someone would want to have a fresh factory VQ at a nice discount, especially if they've blown theirs. Guess I'll have to just play this one out and see if I get my oil-burning engine replaced by Infiniti first.

I doubt you would get much more than $1500-1800 for a new longblock.

I've decided to keep it if I get the new VQ...it's worth more to me that what I can probably get for it...!

Thanks,
B
