The two systems are on opposite ends of the spectrum.

The UTEC is the best sub $1000 system out there. Plug and play, and more than adequate for most mild or stock block builds ups. With a bit of work, you can get some pretty solid, smooth, and stable tunes out of it.

The FCON is a full standalone, and controls the engine from startup to redline, and everything in between. It controls large low impedence injectors perfectly, and once calibrated, your car will run 99% like an OEM car. Immediate startups, smooth idle, and seamless acceleration regardless of RPM or load. It also has very good AF feedback, and numerous safety features.

I think he may be referring to the FCON IS and not the FCON VPRO?

The FCON IS is much more comparable to the UTEC than obviously the Vpro.

Like Sharif said UTEC is the best sub $1000 EMS you can get and the starting problem is only when you are using 600cc injector or higher. I'm using 440cc and never had any problem with Hotstart nor Coldstart. Even with a 600cc injector is it really a big deal to just bleep your gas a little to start the car? If that is a problem then go pay $2k-$3k for a full standalone. Most piggyback will have problem with big injector because the ecu will have a problem scaling it on startup.

I have rc750cc injectors and don't have any starting issues. I live in an area that sees temps that range from 20-100 degrees.

It can be hit or miss. I have seen many cars that start right up with even 750cc injectors, and others that struggle with 550cc injectors. The inconsistency betwween engines, setups, injector spray patterns..etc..etc...all contributes to the variations we see.

That said, just about every car we've done recently with up to 600cc DW injectors start right up...even when warm. Seems like we had more warm start issues with the big RC injectors.

But with an FCON, any injector will fire up really nicely....even 750cc high impedence, or 1000cc low impedence injectors.

We just did finished building a 2.3L Stroker Evo8, with 1200cc low impedence injectors, and the engine cranks perfectly...hot or cold...using the FCON.

Shariff, in your experience, how does the FCON iS compare to the UTEC? I'm not going to throw the FCON VPRO out there since its a completely different level above any piggy back.

I disliked my Utec, that thing lags to start up, especially during cold start, makes my car feel like an old car trying to survive

I havent tuned an IS's yet, but my understanding about its functions, is that is like a high end eManage, with a few extra features that make it much nicer.

GTM has tuned a few of the IS's, so maybe they can chime in.

I got the iS over the utec-- USB interface woulda been cool. but my tune is so rock solid.. I love my iS. and the cool display :c)

That and its the SAME harnesses that you'd need for the vpro- so if you ever want to upgrade- just pick up a unit. and sell the IS.
