Crawford Plenum and Forced Induction Vortech S/C

Doug is the man at the Crawford place correct? Would someone that has a plenum already installed kindly find out from him what the ramifications of running a Vortech with his plenum are? Has this been tested by him and would he guarantee his product against cracking or bursting under higher air pressure? I am very curious to his answers because I see myself purchasing a Vortech down the road (6 months) and I do not want to purchase his plenum if it cannot take the forced induction route that I want to go with my G.

Any help on this would be great.

Man I feel like I'm posting a lot lately. Everyone on this site gets an A+ for help and knowledge. This is by far the best site compared to the children on the 6mt.com and the 350z forums...

I have a Crawford Plenum with my Vortech. Just make sure you install the Plenum before tuning your Vortech and you'll be fine.

Did you talk to Doug before you did Vortech install?

Re: Crawford Plenum and Forced Induction Vortech S/C

I spoke to Doug about this (more out of curiousity than anything) and he told me that he has one local guy running an ATI Procharger with his plenum on. He told me that the guy "just takes it easy and so far he's been fine". This was about 2 months ago.

That's all I know, you can call him and get the skinny yourself.

Re: Crawford Plenum and Forced Induction Vortech S/C

There are several 350Z guys with the plenum and a supercharger that I know of and they don't take it easy. At least one of them has the 9psi belt and drag races the car almost weekly.

I've had my supercharger for 5000 miles, most of which were with the Crawford plenum. I go WOT several times every single day.

But, YMMV.

jeremy, doug is very approachable and friendly. I t amy take a day or two to respond, but email him your questions. I would not call him, as he is busy + it's long distance for you. He can get more detailed in an email on his responses.

Cheers, Ted

P.S. BTW.... if you feel like calling him - go for it! That's why he posts his phone #!

frostylfe... it's OK, really don't worry about modding your coupe.

You just let us sedan guys create some wicked coupe killers and we'll make sure to slow down and wave at you as we go by.

hee hee... I predict that somebody's gonna get the mod-bug very soon!!!

Re: Crawford Plenum and Forced Induction Vortech S/C

Well, one guy (gal actually) blew his Z engine with the ATI procharger and crawford plenum. The reason: NO tuning and her A/F went to 13.5 and boom!

So, the moral os the story is make sure the a/f stays where it is supposed to be. Guys like steve (zimbo) and others know what they are doing, that's why their car is tuned right and runs great! I certainly plan on keeping the plenum when my TT gets here, to make sure the air is getting distributed to all the cylinders equally.

Re: Crawford Plenum and Forced Induction Vortech S/C

When the air is forced into the plenum is there really a point in having the Crawford plenum installed? The stock plenum restricks air flow when there is NO boost. When you pressurize the plenum I can't imagine air be restricted at all. What do you all think?
