LCD Gauge Diplay

So I was just thinking today that I might want to go with a double-din LCD display for DVDs, GPS, and digital gauges.

I know some of you know this ****, so what all would be required to do so? Besides a screen..what is everything I need? This area I am a COMPLETE NOOB at so bear with me...

Yea, I really want to do this. I think it would be badass, but as I said I have no idea what is involved and the costs. I'm assuming probably around 2 grand, but I want some people's inputs. Especially rookie, I believe you have something similar to what I want?

Sup man. I don't have one yet but the camp2 looks to be pretty cool. I checked it out in person on Crom's Z. He's a 03 I think, I want to plug it into a 05+ to see if it reads the factory widebands the way cipher does.

It won't do as much as cipher but it does allow you to monitor and record either sensors it can see from the OBD-II port or external add on sensors using the IF box. http://www.hksusa.com/categories/?id=3470

Think of it as a Defi control box, but the outputs are a configurable video signal.

Cool, thanks bro. I saw you post on my350z about that, thats why I thought you had it. What all can I get off of that? Is it possible to get gauges such as boost, A/F, oil/fuel pressure etc.?

The IF box has optional sensors for temp, pressure, EGT, boost. Hopefully it has more than 1 temp (oil, water) and more than 1 pressure (fuel, oil). If it has all of those it would act very much like the Defi Control box. I want to try to plug the Defi sensors into the IF and see if they work. http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=3496

Here's the FAQ http://www.hksusa.com/faq/?ID=3516

For AF I would still run an external like the Innovate or AEM, but it should be able to call up the on board sensors as well using the OBD-II port.

What about PLX gauges? It's a standard size gauge pod, but uses a oled display, so you can actually make the gauge look like whatever you want, (even match the car's existing gauges), or have it display multiple things.

I have one on order with boost, oil PSI, EGT, and AFR modules, all of which will be displayed at the same time.

52-60mm gauge vs 7" screen. That PLX stuff is expensive just like going all Defi or this Camp2 solution.

PLX have a temp sensor solution yet? That was a big FTL when it debuted.

It seems more complicated than it is really.

Defi's set up is control box, add sensor that come with gauges or add just sensors if you have the Link Display. Here's the link display. http://z1auto.com/prodmore.asp?model...gmt&prodid=511

The link display can monitor most of all the sensors that are added to the control unit. Except boost, it really only records 1 sensor for display unless there's a corresponding gauge. It cycles through it's sensors showing peak on all of them, when you press the status button you can see 2 sensors. Which kinda sucks.

Here's pricing on individual sensors to get an idea. http://optionimports.com/defi.html The HKS pricing for the add on sensors for the IF box are actually pretty reasonable compared to the compettition. Add in the OBD-II capability and it's hard to not look at the Camp 2 as a solution.

I'm sure there are some downsides to it but not many have the system and putting it to different scenarios yet.

Okay..you just confused me even more lol..

Willthe Defi control box work with a DD screen? With the screen route, I'd want to use the Camp 2 right?

lol, sorry just trying to show you the difference in Defi vs the HKS.

For a video screen solution the HKS should be pretty much a complete solution.
You'd set it up like the diagram minus the FCON harness, and add any sensors you want to read that are not available from the OBD-II connection to the IF box.
