Pretty Big Scare Tonight

On my way home about 2AM tonight, I suddenly hear a rattling/crackling sound coming from my engine bay, and I think I may have smelled something burning. I freaked out, pulled over immediately and checked what I could. No leaks, nothing seemed wrong. I started it again, and immediately after starting it was making a pretty loud rattling sound. Turned it off, then I called Scott from Relentless (what other tuners would be available to talk at 2AM?? lol) to talk to him. He tried to help, but since he wasn't there it was hard for him to decipher anything.

So, him and I both figured if it was scattered, whats done is done. So I tried to limp it home, all the while it making that awful sound. Got it in my garage, popped the hood and I continued to look. Checked the oil, everything seemed okay. Lastly, as I was just about to say F it I happened to notice a piece of rubber stuck behind the serpentine belt/pulley on the left side of the engine when facing it. I looked at the AC belt, and it was not there LOL. I looked around, and it was torn to shreds and laying under the serpentine belt.

All in all, I really thought I had scattered my motor, since I had never heard it/done it before I didn't know what to listen for. Scared the **** out of me and I was pissed. Now I'm relieved

Sorry for the long post..its 3AM and I am not tired at all...

I had that happen on an Olds last year. Mine was caused by bearings in a belt tensioner that froze up, and then the tensioner roller broke off.

Great ending to a close call. Nice to have a tuner like that on the hook 24/7.
