G35 w/ headers and exhaust too lean for full vortech kit

EDIT: Problem solved please see page 2.

So the vortech setup full kit will not work right as of right now.

I've been working all day at my tuner's and we're hitting a brick wall b/c I'm running out of injectors.

I have a set of 440 cc deatschwerks on the way here this morning.

We're running out of fuel at 6000 RPM and higher.

I'm not sure how you guys ran the upgraded pulleys on yours and still ran fine AFRs.

Will update as the progress continues.

I'm running the full vortech kit on a 2005 g35 coupe with the fmu and aux inline fuel pump with mrev, 5/16" spacer, nismo headers, nismo exhaust.

that's it for power adders.

any info would be greatly appreciated from those of you who have had this type of setup tuned before.

What kind of whp are u seeing bc with the stock setup u should be good for around 360whp.

If u are not able to get that it's probably bc your FMU disc is different compared to non rev up kits.

I would have ditched the FMU from the beginning and just installed bigger injectors + the walbro intank pump.

Double check the vacuum lines to the FMU. I had the same problem when I was getting mines tunes. It was leaning out real bad at about 5000rpm. I redid all teh vacuum lines and everything was fine since

so it was running fine up until 6000 RPM. My tuner and I are confused as to why we're not able to get any more fuel in there though it had run fine in the past on several other dyno runs with AFRs never over 12.

Now he says he's seeing AFRs over 13.

it amkes no sense to me and i'm afraid at what's going to happen to my tuning bill as this adds up.

They charge $250 an hour for tuning

My old AFRs were alwyas super rich in the mid range until hedid the baseline run today in which he saw super high AFRs above 6000 RPM.

I honestly don't get it.

If I didn't already state it earlier we've got some deatschwerks 440cc injectors on the way overnighteds to be there tomorrow.

Lord I just hope it's not too pricey as this continues

Sounds like you've been having quite an experience with your V3 kit. I was interested in it, but I dunno. Hopefully you get it all worked out.. Keep us up to date on your progress..

You do know that ALL vortech kit (no matter v2 or v3) that comes with an ems is tuned ONLY for a stock g35/350z. Therefore, once u start changing your stock g35 by adding mods (headers/exhaust/etc) the basic vortech tune is now useless. So if u have a stock g35/350z then there wouldn't be an issues.

Sorry to say, if the OP did a little more research and purchased the necessary fuel setup there wouldn't be any issues in running lean but that's life. U have to make mistakes to learn from them

Oh yeah.. I was leaning towards the V3 since its a self contained system. Im just still hesitant about pulling the trigger on the whole FI.

And I definetly want to get my research in and ask around if I do decide to go that route.. I haven't really picked anybody's brain yet, and I want to read up as much as possible before asking any questions..

By the way, did you change your mind about selling your car? Saw a couple posts you started looking for some things..

To the OP; good luck with your tuning issues and maybe you can help out future members that purchase the kit with your install and tuning experiences

Wow 4 different sets of injector sizes? I thought 550 cc was adequate for that HP range?

I remember with my ATI setup before I blew the engine..I was running 550cc injectors...tunes was pretty good..I upgraded pulleys and had the car retuned and it kept maxing out at 5500 Rpms...couldnt ever get it right...we did a mild/conservative tune on it and I was making 385 at the wheels...9-10 psi of boost...A/F was pretty good as well..... once I posted my maps though on the boards alot of the tuners out there said my maps were all screwed up....anyways good luck with the kit but like stated above..its a tuner kit for a stock g/350...i would def ditch the FMU and I would of installed a Walbro fuel pump and maybe even a return fuel system at the front...that is what I would of done if I went back to a supercharger.

lol!!! Can you say overkill?

OP, for god sake upgrade your FMU unless you are using a utech.

I still think ure tune was bad. a motor doesnt just pop driving home at regular driving. If u say your a/f was good then u were probably running some crazy timing and u didnt even know it.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but could you give me some clarification on how the timing affects FI applications. Specifically what advancing or retarding does and how it affects the tune. Thanks
