Blown Motor - need suggestions

Hey guys. It's been a while since I've been on the forums. My motor finally went. I put about 50k on my kit with 70k on the car. Reflash @ 8psi. Everything was fine until two nights ago. Hit just under redline in 3rd and bam... smoke everywhere. There are two holes in the block and I need to get things replaced.

I am currently in LA. Does anyone have recommendations for shops? I recieved an estimate on a used engine with 24k on it for $6,000. A brand new engine is $10,000. Labor is roughly about $1,700. Is there another route that I would be able to take besides pulling the turbo?

if youre spending 10k on a new motor, just buy a new built long block and swap everything out in a day. then dont worry about blowing your motor. and when you're ready, turn up the boost.

gtmotorsports.com. they're somewhat close to you. they sell fully built longblocks. since you blew a hole in your block, im assuming you probably bent a lot of valves, and wouldnt reccomend reusing your current blown motor.

Thanks for the information.

What do I need to provide? What is the difference between a short block and long block? Would I have to use any part of my old motor if bought a long block?

you can find used engines for 1500 in LA. check craigslist. I always see VQ's for sale for about a grand.

You should however do a full motor build. It shouldn't run you 10k for that either.

10k for a stock block is daylight robbery, I second GTM.

GTM. They'll charge you for the long block and remove/install the FI for the price of a new VQ.

just so you know I got a used motor with 28k installed By infiniti with a 2 year warranty on the motor for 3200 out the door..engine was complete with a new wiring harness when I blew my engine....Dont pay anywhere near that amount of money for a used engine..I would of done a Fully Built motor but sold my ATI Procharger to buy the new engine since I didnt have the extra 3 grand avaiable....
