Stillen G35 Auto Sedan Supercharger - Anyone?
Re: Stillen G35 Auto Sedan Supercharger - Anyone?
Again, sorry for the lame questions, but did you install a LSD before doing this fine thing? I'm concerned about wheelspin and the traction control clamping down all the power if you have it on? Would hate to waste all that beautiful power, or see it turn to smoking rubber. 1 wheel smoke shows are very uncool.
Re: Stillen G35 Auto Sedan Supercharger - Anyone?
catatafsh, LOL
As for the exhat weight... the Stillen exhaust for teh SEDAN IS 13.5 lbds lighter than the stock 73.5lbs weight. It is the coupe/Z exhaust that is i think 8 lbs heavier than stock.

Gurgen,
Off topic, but do you know if TS is offering any special deals for Team Transport members?
2 G or NOT 2 G, there is no question!

Don't think so. Athough somebody remind me via a PM or smth after June 11th (after my exams) and I will bring it up with Todashi/Danny. Maybe a Groupe Buy?

I'd like to know as well, as to how you connected the fan... Probably via a separate (or 2) thermocouple? Why did you take off the stock pusher fan? In the way of the IC? Looks like a good setup.
What kind of numbers/times are you getting? THnaks

Hello, Gurgen,
The Stage 2 is warrantable and it is intercooled. This is the one I'm considering. Basically, the warranty and the CARB legal status is very appealing to me...and the fact that they have a kit for the Auto Sedan.
I'll do a search for your previous discussions on it.
Thanks!

I understand - and IMO (and trust me - i am not a minority in this) that is the only advantage of the Stillen kit. I have tried to find my own post - but couldn't ... i have almost 1000 posts ... so too many to soft through.
Ok, here is the skinny:
The Stillen SC does NOT have any kind of ECU upgrade. How can you slap on a WHOLE SUPERCHARGER and not do anything to the ECU? I won't even do that for some N/A mods.... I am not saying the SC is UNSAFE, it is is not, it is very SAFE. They use a 7th injector (thining: whoat!!!!????) to flood the combustion chamber enough to prevent detonation with the stock aggressive timing advance. This is a very poor design approach. THe bet way to do things is to adjust the A/F to the optimum mid-11 range, and retard timing to safe level. And in the mentime NOT use a 7th injector (it's like using a 5th wheel???). Unfortunately, we don't know that dreamworks is doing EXACTLY, but they DO in fact use a 7th injector, however from what I know tey use it only in emergencies (lean condition). Their design looks good on paper - and that's the problem - they have been saying 'will be available in 60 days' for about 10-12 months now, and from what we know it WILL come with Dell warranty, will NOT require a hood mod, have water-air intercoolers (all integrated into a single assembly), and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, includes an ECU upgrade (keep in mind all this info is veyr sketchy - but that's what is known now).
No supercharger, unfortunately, comes with the proper injector upgrade. You need to invest $700-1000 for injectors and another $500 for the RIGHT, CUSTOM TUNED ECU upgrade from TS. The Vortech comes with a Spiltsecond that allows you to adjust the a/f.
Hence, you can can see why i am going with a TT kit... At 7 psi - it will make around 400 wheel hp.

Re: Stillen G35 Auto Sedan Supercharger - Anyone?
Sorry it took so-long to get back to you guys . The fans are flex o lite 220 suckers with there speed control the senser is hose clamped to the rad inlet pipe and covered with thumb gumb (like silly putty). I removed the factory electric fan because I did not think that I needed it and so far I have no problems with overheating, but I don't think that the factory one would be in the way of the inner-cooler. I have not installed a LSD in the car in 1st & 2nd gear with two people in the car you can break the tires loose if you nail it above 3500 RPM at will. I'm running Toyo T1S 245/35/20 all around, when the tires do break loose it is always both, for the most part if you are going to be on the gas you have to shut off the traction control. Car shifts with no problem at WOT in auto in any gear without ever hitting the red limiter. All work on the car short of the painting was performed by myself. I hope I answered everyones questions, if you have any more just ask. BTW I have not had time to post new pictures and a complete list of all the mods so I wil do a quick run down here:
Vortech polished S/C
Stillen exhaust
GL 4-piece body kit
Tein flex coil overs
Stillen sway bars
Giovanna Attack 2 - 20" rims
Toyo T1S 245/35/20
Samco red rad hoses
Engine cover, brake cover & battery cover painted red
Flex-O-Lite dual electric fans
Stoptech 14.1" 4-wheel brake kit (on the way)
Changing all wire loom under hood to red
Custom guage pod on A pillar
AEM wideband 02
Greddy boost guage
Vanity license plate (GUNIT)
Complete custom audio system (way too much to list)

Re: Stillen G35 Auto Sedan Supercharger - Anyone?
I'm pretty sure the Stillen Superchargers come with a piggyback unit used to control the 7th injector.
Here's the dyno results of a Stillen Stage II SC including the A/F ratio. Don't think there were any other mods.

Re: Stillen G35 Auto Sedan Supercharger - Anyone?
Sorry for my ignorance, but how can you tell from a dyno whether it is reporting numbers at the crank or the wheels?
Thanks very much for posting all this info!
As untunable as the Stillen setup is, I'm probably still going to go with it since a) it's a kit for the auto sedan, b) it's safe and legal. Unfortunately, even adding the Technosquare ECU will void their extended warranty.
I'm not too keen on spending a whole lot of time dealing with working out every ounce of power, but I would like a significant boost to enjoy.
Thanks again,
Carlin

Carlin,
This dyno chart shows drive wheel horsepower and torque as well as the air/fuel ratios. It's pretty safe to assume any dyno results you see posted will be so. I've not seen any engine dyno results posted on the G and Z forums I view. Might have missed them though.

Re: Stillen G35 Auto Sedan Supercharger - Anyone?
Good find Dave.
I was told by stillen that they run their SC at around 10.5 to 1. That was a few months back at the time the magazine shootout came out. I guess they have changed that - as the 12:1 ratio is OK. The reason I say ok is that running 5.5 psi of boost, 12:1 is right at the threshold of what's safe. All the Fi guys on the Z forums stay at 11.5 to 1 a the absolute highest, and that's with timing retarded a few degrees.
As far as piggiback, i know that they do not run a timing retard device - that's what I would consider a piggyback computer. Otherwise, yes, they are running a boost/rpm dependent enrichment devide (like a rising rate FPR) with the 7th injector tapped into the line. Stillen is certainly a good warrantied solution, no doubt about that. Just not for me.

Re: Stillen G35 Auto Sedan Supercharger - Anyone?
Great, thanks for the info. Stillen quoted the stage 2 at the crank with 343HP. I was wondering how the dyno you posted compared.
320HP is an appreciable gain over stock..what was it? 225-230HP at the wheels?
Now I gotta see if I can get myself down to the Stillen 350Z/G35 day this Saturday. I'd like to hear the Stillen exhaust before buying it... who knows, maybe I'll leave with it on that day. :-)
Regarding the Fujitsubo that Catatafish suggested... I took a quick look and one thing I really like about the Stillen exhaust is that it's dual tip--looks a lot like stock. I'm not really going for the modified look, so I don't like the big fat pipes on, I think, all of the other exhausts.
Brent, you've got a sweet setup. Nice work getting that Vortech in the sedan!
Gurgen, good luck with your twin turbo! I'm sure you're going to have a GREAT summer. :-)
Thanks to all for the info, everyone!

Re: Stillen G35 Auto Sedan Supercharger - Anyone?
cdogg,
The Fujitsubo is a dual tip as well. It's just not dual mid pipes. How many midpipes is really irrelevant. "True Dual" is a marketing ploy. What matters are the final numbers and Fuji's are the best. The tips are very similar to your stock tips. Not a fart can.

Since this thread has already been hi-jacked...
Catatafish,
Please provide torque and horsepower dyno results that support your statement -- "What matters are the final numbers and Fuji's are the best." The manufacturer's results will be fine.
I'll be real interested to compare them with my aftermarket exhaust system's results.
Thanks,
