if you can ready a FSM,have mechanical aptitude, and have the tools, its not hard, esp dropping the motor with a lift and bolting on a turbo kit. Might take alot longer than a pro shop would take, but your labor is free.

like he said, it only took 10 days. easily would take that long minimum at any of the pro shops.

I was just reading through the installation instructions from APS and in those it seems you don't even have to remove the engine. Removing engine may make things easier but it seems to not be required. That is good for the guys, like me, who don't have a lot of access to a lift.

I know you didn't use the unichip that comes with the complete kit but maybe someone can answer here so no need to open a new thread. I run 93 octane so I'd get the unichip with the 93 map tune on it from APS. since it had a 93 octane map on it does that mean I don't HAVE to get it tuned, or it just a base map to be fine tuned? Thanks in advance for answer and sorry for the minor thread jack.

I would never trust a generic tune as there are just to many variables.

I did install the APS kit in my garage on jack stands without removing the engine. It was a pain in the butt, but as you can see it can be done (I'm not a mechanics). If I had to do it again, I would definitely take it out. Some pics here: http://www.science.uottawa.ca/~paul/G35/Twinturbo/

Later,

I hear that from a lot of people who install themselves.

i'm wondering the same thing myself. I have no idea, but the correction factors were pretty much the same for both dyno's

Props for the DIY work and everything. I agree that the numbers seem a bit low for that boost level but regardless I'm sure you are happy as hell to drive it!

ttrank - thanks for the kind words. I'm pretty sure I've figured out why the numbers were low. I need to dyno again to confirm but that's a priority right now. The car is fun to drive and that's all that matters right now. Stay tuned for round 2 of mod's,hahahaha

Nice, was talking to City Monkey yesterday....congrats man... I DYI my Vortech kit and the base map had me running 15s as far as air fuels are concerned. I am glad I had the discipline to not romp on it for two weeks until I got the tune.

Job well done... base hobby shop ftw!

my buddies APS TT put down 369 on Daves at Function Tuned Dyno with 9psi....its all about correction. My vortec put down 326 but 405.6 on a dynapack and 369 on a dyno jet... all at just under 8psi....its all good...as long as it drives good and fast numbers are for identification purposes only..lol

Wow...looking at this thread 3 months later I would say I would do it myself if I have access to a place with tools like this.

10 days means you're pacing yourself and giving yourself time to do the job right, contact folks for support and pickup any last minute items necessary to get the job done.

Kudos on a job well done

thanks for the kind words. It took a total of 10 days because a few days the hobby shop was closed and a few days I showed up for an hour or so. its actually about 4days of work. I'll be doing it again for round two but, this time it will take my half the time.
