blown piston rod
#17
just got APS TT installed on stock motor at 7psi. 10 days later, on the freeway flooring it and at 85mph blew a piston rod and snapped it in half. it shot out the bottom of the block and blew a hole in it. i just bought a 350z engine because it was cheapest way to go(3000$ installed w/ 45,000miles). anyone else with problem before? i have a 2003.5 g35 sedan with 48,xxx miles.

sry to hear but your are not alone, cuz i blown mine last sat. as well
i have a greddyTT and was still running on the greddy's 440cc injector and they are already pretty much max out on the tune i had in the summer time. Due to weather changes we got -20C here at toronto last week and fuel compensation couldnt be made for the winter, my engine blown, where i got broken pcs of piston on cycl 4 and the rod punch thru the sleeve and the wall.
btw, one of my customer in town also has the APSTT kit. i dynoed his car last summer with 9lb boost on his 03 350z engine and it was holding good.

Dont tell me you were using the E-Blue I'm pretty sure it wasnt just the A/F or injector that killed your motor, Ignition Timing also played huge role!!!! E-Blue cant control the ignition so at colder weather your ECU probably advanced the timing. People blow their motor with the Blue even with big enough injector.

Even with the ignition harness I didn't think the Blue is capable of controlling the ignition, the E-Ultimate can control ignition. If the Blue can control the Ignition then why bother with the Ultimate?
The OP created a thread and never even bother to give an update...
Edit:
The Ignition Harness does work for the 350z/G35... My bad..

using the EMS that came with the APS TT kit. talked to Dyno-Comp, who tuned it and installed the turbos and they said to rebuild the block would cost 6000$+.. cheapest way out was purchasing a 04 350z motor w. 45,000 miles on it for 1500 and swapping for 1500. so 3000 total installed. is there anything i should do different? the dyno sheet shows 350rwhp and about 355tq @ ~7psi (i ordered gauges and they did not come in yet so i was driving the car for 13 days until they came in. and on the 10th day it blew the rod through the block. so not sure exactly wat psi it was at)
do i need to worry about this happening again? wat can i do to prevent another blown motor? im only 17.. cant afford another one and would have to part out the G :/

/\ Get a better EMS and make sure you install some gauges.. I'm leaning toward a bad tune coz you weren't pushing mad power. Or next option is find another TUNER!!! With a stock block replacement then you bet you should worry about it happening again!! What make you sure your replacement motor is not a lemon?

not sure how to read the dyno's or have them scanned onto the computer. PSI and AFR dyno sheet shows 7psi max and at 2500-3200rpms 14AFR then from 3200-shift its at 11AFR.. not sure what this means i forget what the guy who tuned it told me. 350tq and 353hp. what other information do i need?
thanks for the help guys - i dont know too much about FI and engines so im just learning so much now. i need to do as much as i can to make sure it doesnt happen again.

Someone was definitely wrong with your tune. I am on the ss box from JWT (everyone hates it) for almost 2 years now boosted and no problems..over 22k miles. Sorry to hear about your motor though, but if you're only 17 with a limited budget and you're buying a brand new stock block that is a stupid move. There is probably a 90% chance of this happening again. If you can afford the APS TT install and a brand new motor, fork out the extra 3k and build your current block if its salvageable. Otherwise, I would take off the twins from your car. It WILL end up costing you more than 3k in the long run, even if your car runs longer than 10 days.

That or you could go in just sticking another stock engine in there, lowering the boost and hoping for the best. Your old tune could have been decent, but the engine might have been weak from the beginning.
