no other mods, straight to turbo?
no other mods, straight to turbo?
Hello, I'm a dumb a$$, my car is a completely stock 04 g35x sedan and i want to turbo it. What should my steps be? I know that there are whole lot of things that need to be tweaked for my car to handle the increase in power, but i don't have any idea what they are...like i said, I'm a dumb a$$...
I don't have a lot of money and I know that this is going to be a long process but i just need a starting point.

wow.. you're looking at around 5k minimum for a decent fi. you might also want to consider supercharging.
depends on how much power you want. you can get about ~340-380 on basically a stock motor/tranny on our cars. atleast that's what i've got out of the research i've done.

To OP, you're going to spend 10k plus for a reliable FI installed. You're best bet to learn about FI is head on over to that Forced induction thread and ask the gurus to teach you whats up.
OP,
If you have not already done so, please do yourself a huge favor and read this thread:

If you have already read both of these threads, please re-read them. They will answer your question, and probably a whole lot of questions you have not yet thought of. That's why they were put in this forum as stickies. They are intended to help people just like yourself.

To stupid to use the search button, there must be 100000 threads with your same question and budget.

so I know it's gonna take a whole lotta money, but all that takes is time and saving. I just need to know what my first step would be once I have the money. Just buy a kit and have a shop put it in?
DO the math...and whatever number you come up with...just add $10,000 to it.
My advise to you is...dont put turbo's on your car..stay NA...Why do I say that??? Because of your statement.."I dont have alot of money"....It will alway cost more than your budget.

i already said up there, it depends on how much power you wanna make. if you wanna make around 340-360 whp, you will be fine with stock everything. just get a good tune. that's the biggest thing...
if you wanna push the 400 whp limit, you will need to do internal work on the motor, and tranny. also you will need to probably switch to a standalone engine management system if the package you get comes with just a reflash.
just go sc. it's a slight bit cheaper, and some may argue that it isnt as much strain on your car at out-of-box performance.. (stage 1)

Let me make this easy for you. You are going to spend minmum 3500+ on a used kit. You need to lok into a few things....such as if you blow your motor do you have the time and or money to replace it, do you have a second car to drive. You also need to look into engine management, tuning and some other things for starters.
My recomendation would be to build your bottom end if you are looking for anything over the 380-400hp mark. Also as everyone else said take the time and search the forced induction thread. You will learn a lot there.
