HKS Supercharger

IMO, it seems to be a pretty slick setup. Small, compact... provides around 6.5 psi boost.

The quoted responses are essentially what the HKS representatives stated.

"Systems for the 350Z should be arriving soon."

How about the G35?

"The system will be available for the G35 Coupe but not the Sedan."

Why not the Sedan?

"Because the Sedan's radiator core support is in the way." (Pointing to the air filter.)

I beg to differ... there the same part. (# 62500 - AM600).

"Our engineers are the best in the world and they say it won't fit the G35 Sedan. "

Are you sure it's not because of the mechanical radiator fan on the earlier AT Sedans?

"No, the engineers told me the Sedan's radiator core support won't allow the air filter to clear."

At that point I walked away.

Re: HKS Supercharger

That sucks, the more FI choices there are the better for everyone. I still think it's a shame the Stillen requires another hood; otherwise it'd be a great part for those who enjoy driving sporty and fast, as it provides an all around better power delivery then the Vortech. However, for all out speed, the Vortech smothers the Stillen. I think I'd prefer the roots blower though for my everyday driving style.

Any expectations of prices for the coupe?

Also, since it's an SC and has no involvment in exhaust, one would think it could be retrofitted to the Sedan if there are no functional differences in clearance/radiators.

Re: HKS Supercharger

That's VERY cool!
I'm very suprised at his response to your questions as well.

It's great seeing all these different options for the cars...other Infiniti's have never had this level of support! Most Nissan's over here really haven't had great support for that matter either... that's very cool.

Re: HKS Supercharger

I'm not so sure we're deriving benefits from manufacturers who have chosen to support our Infiniti more, or rather the fact that Nissan chose to put the same engine on the same shared platform for several different models in their corporate line-up. If you figure out how to boost one model, you've nearly broken the code for several other models. The Z33 is our Rosetta Stone!

Re: HKS Supercharger

Yeah, good point.

I'm still heavily into the older Nissan SE-R/Infiniti G20 market and there's no where near the same level of service and support for those cars, even though there's a lot on the road and they were made for over 10 years now. But then again, there are some making 500+ hp at the wheels w/ boost, some naturally aspirated cars are now pushing over 100hp/L at the wheels (think about a 350-375+whp all motor 3.5L G35), some can pull over 1.0 lateral G on a skidpad, etc.. and that's from a smaller collection of aftermarket parts too.

Just different viewpoints I guess. Either way I'm just happy to see the support! Makes my next car choice that much easier =P

Re: HKS Supercharger

I heard that pricing is going to be around $7500.00. It is intercooled, and the bumper stays in place. There is supposed to be an official press release within two or three weeks.

Re: HKS Supercharger

Well, the Z33 is a natural test-monkey for aftermarket stuff, is it not? We have to wait our turn all the time, but at least there is an upside to that scenario: I seem to have heard about more blown engines on the Z33 than on our G35... I say let'em prove new hardware on the Z33. Then trickle the proven stuff on down where we can exploit it safely.

Re: HKS Supercharger *DELETED*

I like the unit a lot - i just hope that it sells SIGNIFICANTLY lower than MSRP if it has any chance of successfully taking over the SC market. B/c $7000+ is WELL into, if not passed, TT territory.

Re: HKS Supercharger *DELETED*

Just read the July Option magazine~ The HKS Supercharger seems to be similar to our Vortech, but with more conservative tuning for now. They showed a dyno chart of the HKS unit and IIRC it's making around 360 to the ground and base dyno was 240whp. So about 120whp gain on the unit. The intercooler on the bumper looks awefully small though.

On a side note, the HKS unit is said to use some magnetic clutching mechanism and high ratio gearing that enables it to be spinning at 15,000+rpm when the engine is running at 6000rpm. (Dunno if that's the same principal as the Vortech and ATI)

I also prefer the Stillen type supercharger, but can't stand the idea of a hood bulge..... Someone want to photoshop a STi hood scoop on a G35C?
