So I'm thinking of building a turbo motor and I have a clean canvass, as I don't have a motor yet. Should I build a rev up motor or a non rev? I'm planning on going TT with the motor or at least a single turbo, but it will be built for boost. Any help would be great...also please give me the reasons why one is better over the other.

Im not sure what the difference is but i know rev-up is better and people who would buy a rev-up engine as a spare engine to build it for boost.

 

well they dont use the same ECU either, so you'll have to source a new stock ECU (get that programmed by the dealer $$$) and get a full wiring harness ($$$$$).

If you get a nice EMS you can control intake and exhaust cams on the rev-up . In reality it doesnt matter much as either motor has made big numbers.

 

What kind of power are you trying to get?

^ I beleive you usually still have to run the ECU as there are things that require the stock ECU independent from tuning.

BTW I have a VQ35DE shortblock for sale if you want it. Perfect candidate for a rebuild.

 

if you want a race car, then you can use a MOTEC and skip everything thats on the CAN bus system. That would easily run ya 15,000$ just for that though.

but otherwise, you have to use a stock ECU and wiring harness.

What G35 do you currently have? Is it rev-up or non? This will determine what to use. I see no compelling reason to run a rev-up, if you have a non-rev-up, or vise versa.

I have a non-rev, which leads me to believe to run a non-rev.

Silver G...what do you have and how much?? I found one locally, but it's a little expensive for what I'm looking for.

I don't think I want to spend 15k just on the management. I'm hoping to do everything under 12K and make it a streetable and reliable car, which I think should be do-able.

Anything else you can think of that I should consider before starting this build? I'm hoping to have it all done and complete by December, so I still have some time to get it done.

 

Its a VQ35DE (Non revup) shortblock. It def needs to be rebuilt as there are quite a few miles on the engine. But it has always ran strong with no major issues. I am asking $500+shipping for it. Let me know what you think, and I am def willing to work something out with you.

 

How many is quite a few? What comes with the motor?

Sorry just checked back on this thread. As for the miles it has 104K on it...like I said def needs to be rebuilt (perfect for a rebuild). You get simply the shortblock with nothing else.

This would give you time to build it up, keep your car running in the meantime, and when it is time to install just transfer over anything and everything you can from your current motor (i.e. heads, covers, plenum, wiring, etc.) Yes i can take it to a freight depot. My zip code is 92673.
