California sucks

I've got an '08 sedan. Have been considering FI, however after perusing these threads and using Google, it appears that it is not possible in Kalifornia (and pass the smog check).

So, unless I'm mistaken (hope I am!), what the heck do some of you guys do or plan to do when it's smog check time? Move to a free-state? (sarcasm)

Are there components that can be swapped-out without much difficulty, or...???

03 or 04+ I forget which one it is do not need smog for 5-6 yrs. You have an 08, 2013 or something like that is smog time.

Yeah, rookie, it's the VQHR engines. There don't seem to be FI Kal-legal options for them. At least, not now.

BKZJAYY718, interesting....

Yeah but what Rookie was saying is you will not need to get a smog check for another 5-6 years. So if you want to do it now is the time. Then after 5-6years you can search around until you can find somebody that will pass it.

True. But I was hoping there was a better solution than skirting the law. 'fraid I'm a tad chicken.

Reading about terrycs' car (https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-eng...rning-gtm.html) whetted my appetite. I was hoping that in the year he'd had it done that somebody in Kali had come-up with a smogged version.

I'm quite envious of some of the cars I see on this forum (from other states) and obviously their owners must enjoy tremendously... *sigh*

There may be hope. Found the following email from Stillen here: http://www.350z-tech.com/forums/inde...ic=40953&st=20 (based on the context of the thread seems this is for the HR 07-08 engines)

"Hi Jeff and thanks for your interest in Stillen. This is a version of a reply that we have been sending in response to inquiries we've received on this project…

"We are working on a forced induction kit for the HR engines. There have been a number of technical and engineering hurdles and I am pleased to report that we have made excellent progress on these.

"We are not ready to make any formal announcement regarding this kit or the likely components of the finished product, Unfortunately, these type of projects take a lot of time in both design, testing and manufacturing and we can't give you specs or any realistic timetable at this point.

"You may be aware that Stillen designed and built the first and most popular 50 state legal supercharger for the 350Z, G35 and FX35. We are proud of our track record for reliability, performance and legality and our goal is to continue this tradition with any new unit.

"Specifically in answer to your questions, we do want to keep it under the stock hood. We cannot set horsepower goals without completing testing. Our goal here is reliability on stock engine components and 50 state legality above sheer output."

Thanks for your inquiry,

if its stillen, it's going to be one of their superchargers which costs about 6K and produces about 50rwhp.

Yeah it was Stillen... if that's it, I'll pass. Hard to believe they'd sell enough units to make it worth their while if that turns out to be the case.
