My head gasket busted. That's all that there really is to it.

2200 miles old.

You should have had no issues with the power you are putting out, the shop that you used for your build failed. I would move to another shop.

What kind of head gasket did the shop use?

OK, that makes more sense. Like others have said, you aren't the first person to have a Cometic headgasket fail on you for no apparent reason.

Stay away from those things. Go with the HKS next time.

I agree...I have had the HKS on by car for over 2 years....I have pushed it to 800whp without any issues...

Also....if you are getting head lift at the hp levels you were running....move on to another shop....unless the shop advised you to use better parts...and for whatever reason you did not...

L19 & HKS head gasket is the way to go. If anyone is looking to save money on a build....this is the last area to look at.

Japtrix is closer, and will take good car of Eric. I know they put on his fuel return system, but they didn't do the long block build. Roger hates, hates Cometic headgaskets and would have fought tooth and nail to avoid using them. In fact, he too recommends HKS headgaskets and isn't even so keen on using HR headgaskets for my next build because he has not seen enough information on their long term survivability on high HP builds.

Hopefully we see more long term data before I make my final decision on my new build... I am very interested in the HR coolent flow pattern, but I don't want to risk a blown head gasket. I'd like to see how GTM's new autobahn beast holds up. That is using the HR head gaskets I beleive (I'll double check and change this post if it is not).

EDIT: It is indeed using the HR head gasket with the L19 head studs. Here is the link:

I get depressed when reading about Cometic failures Does anyone else make a 100mm gasket? If I have bent valves it might be a good time to ditch the cometic.
