JWT bov

Is there really even a need for a BOV on the JWT twins??? It seems as though adding one hurts your perfomance and could damage the turbos

You are kidding right? I have used BOV on my JWT 700bb & 850bb turbo kit and there were no issues A BOV will protect the turbo's rather than harm them

It's not a "need" but a good idea. You can't pass CARB with a BOV which is what JWT was going for. Last I knew cold start was the only reason the 530 kit didn't get CARB.

Besides it sounds so much more fun with a BOV

I just installed the 530bb kit and we added one in... but I don't have to worry about emissions for a few years

That it does.

I have three and they are loud!

(we tried one on my car but were still getting some surge so instead of cutting out and moving the one and adding a second I just got two more. Overkill I know but it scares people on the sidewalks. )

well the only concern i had was that i saw that the JWT had a BOSCH recirculating valve and that with the blow off valve the air going out into the atmosphere would not be accounted for and i'd be running rich... i did look into it some more and i plan on using a haltech and the MAP sensor would take care of this... so i guess what i was asking was if the recirculating valve was good enough or a blow off valve would be better? Hence i'll be moving to FL for military and i dont really know alot of state inspection shops down there and i dont wanna run into emmissions problems.

If you're in the military just keep it registered in your home of record and you won't have to worry about local emissions testing. As long as you got your military ID on you the cops won't give you any trouble for out of state plates or whatever. DOD stickers help too

"good enough" is so relative.... Personally on my car I wouldn't trust a recirculating valve to prevent overboost... All you need is one malfunction leading to a boost spike to make a very expensive BOOM.

I'm tuned with Osiris and had the same concerns but my tuner took care of it. Car runs great.

Talk to Green Goblin (Danny) about requirements for FL. He has a twin turbo G down there.

Blow off valves, whether they recirculate or vent to atmosphere do not prevent "overboost". That is the function of the wastegate. The function of a BOV is to prevent compressor surge when the throttle abruptly closes. With Osiris if your wastegate fails, you can say goodbye to your motor.

The Haltech has fuel cut overboost protection. Plumb your boost solenoid hoses or wastegates incorrectly and the Haltech will save your @ss. Osiris won't do squat. One of the things to keep in mind when choosing an EMS for FI.

You need something that will at least pull a ton of timing if there is a problem. I'm not sure if my UTEC will cut fuel but I know if it starts to knock it pulls an @ssload of timing. I did that once last year because I was up at high elevation (~7k ft) and had to turn up the EBC then came back home (~1k ft) and forgot to turn it down. I got on it and as soon as the turbos spooled up it cut out hard. Turned down the boost and all was happy again. Scary situation! Haven't ever forgot to turn it back down since!!

I learned back with my stage 4 stillen and stock block that the stock ECU can't pull enough timing to prevent detonation on a FI motor. I had all kinds of those issues with the Stillen.

All but one of my cars are registered in FL.....Even the G.....The only think FL cares about is that you have insurance....Best state in the US for FI'ed cars Plus no need for front license plate to block IC
