Gauges

hey guys.. i'm getting ready to go FI and i had a few questions... I've been looking at gauges and have looked at other peoples rides and everyones is a little different... i wanted to know what are the essential gauges that i need so that i can monitor what is going on and make sure everything is going safe... also what levels should i be setting the warning level at (ie. water temp )..
Thanks!

While I don't have FI I have looked a lot into various types of gauges. One thing you may want to consider are the OBD types of gauges which are programmable and can be daisy chained (some up to 32 gauges). In addition some of these can have features added by non OBD related external sensors. To me the combination may well be ideal especially if you are not really sure of what you may want to watch beyond the essentials.

I went with STRI racing gauges through Slowmotionmotorsports.com (corey is my contact). I got the A/F ratio, oil pressure, water temperature, and boost pressure. That is what my installer suggested for my install. Its really down to what you want to monitor. Check the FI section, there are some suggestions in the stickies...

A wideband is a must for FI. Oil pressure, fuel pressure also very important coolant temp, EGT and boost are also nice.

^ +1. also look into a plx multigauge with OBDII interface if you want to minimize the number of gauges as well as get readings from the OEM sensors.

You wont get the AF, Oil Pressure, Boost, Fuel Pressure with those ODB2 gadget which I believe are a must. It just wont work with our car.

Well the good thing about the aeroforce is that is has 5v analog inputs for just those things. In my Grand Prix I had not only the OBD2 funtions but I also had my wideband attached to it. I loved that gauge to death.

with the exception of fuel pressure, you can add modules to get all of that data on the PLX multigauge. they are supposed to put out a fuel pressure module at the end of the month.

That is the point I was making. What doesn't exist in OBD can be added to some of these gauges. Also although the gauges may have fewer selections for Nissan's there are a few that can be had in some cases if you know how to find them with some of the digital ones that have the ability of custom polling the OBD interface. I wish that I could get temperatures for oil and transmission but in my case that is not possible, however I think with what you mentioned that would be possible.

my350z will have more information on safe operating ranges, particularly for ppl with boosted cars. i've seen the info over there, you just need to search around a little. from what i remember though, coolant temps should stay below 210F (this is the hi temp trigger on your fans), AFR should be 14.7 (if NA) or 11-12 (if FI), and stock fuel pressure is around 52 PSI.

So does HKS Camp2. What I meant was dont be fooled with those odb2 gadget that will tell you it can read those data out of your car without any added module.
