Screwed Up Supercharger Install
Screwed Up Supercharger Install
Had procharger kit installed, forgot to tell shop about my smaller UR Crank pully, Mechanic didnt notice, I know this will hurt my numbers with lower boost but anyone know how much? will it be drastic? Still have my stock pully but according to mechanice the supercharger has to be removed - This Sucks
You need a new shop ASAP! Why would you need to take the SC off to change the crank pulley? Is it a smaller pulley or larger? A smaller pulley on the crank would would make more revolutions than a larger one there for the blower would spin slightly faster than it would with a larger pulley at the same engine RPM? So you would make more power at the same RPM? Wouldn't you, thats my thinking on it I could be wrong.
Its the smaller underdrive crank pully from UR. Couple of freinds say it will result in less boost. Beats me why, some of the more experienced guys on the forum could prob chime in. I wonder why he would say he would have to remove the blower to swap it out maybe becuase it and the belts, assembly etc are in the way.
smaller crank pulley will rev engine faster but since it will minimize the difference between crank:supercharger pulley ratio it will result in overall less boost.
Also, when you are pushing that much more power, you probably want the stock crank pulley as well, since it has a harmonic dampener on it.

Do not run the procharger with the ur pulley, unless you want to run into problems in the future. For F/I, better to use a ATI ot Fluidampr, but if you don't want to spend the money, put back on the stocker.
And a slightly OD crank pulley will result in slightly higher boost numbers. A slightly UD crank pulley will result in slightly lower boost. But more important to have a crank pulley that is dampened when F/I.

DEFINITELY need the stock pulley back on. Not because of boost, but because of the two reasons listed above. One ProCharger owner to the next... you want to minimize as many problems as you can.
Have another shop do the swap, don't even go back to the other.

If your mech did some custom piping then maybe it does have to come off. The rad had to be taken off my car to install the same pulley as you have.
If all you have is the crank pulley then there's no way he should have missed it,the finish of it alone vs the other pulleys-a/c,p/s-would be a dead giveaway to ask you about it.
With a supercharger you have to use a stock diameter pulley set but it can be a lightened one like the UR.
Is this mech normally top-notch with a good rep and have you used him before? Everybody makes mistakes,if he wants to rip it apart and put on the correct crank pulley for FREE I'd give him a chance to save face, that could cost him alot of business if the word got out.

This is not true. Many, including myself, run the ATI dampened crank pulley which is slightly OD than stock. The problem with "lightened" crank pulleys, is that most, if not all, are not dampened, which can lead to disaster when F/I b/c of things like dangerous torsional vibrations exerted on the crank. A dampened crank pulley like the ATI and the fluidampr are actually the same weight if not a tad bit heavier than the stock. But the aftermarket dampened crank pulleys have superior dampening abilities than the stock's rubber ring (which can deteriorate over time).
Thanks for the feedback guys, Spoke to the mechanic he wants a chance to fix it at no extra cost to me. This particular shop (dont want to mention any names at this point) has a great rep. One of his workers did the job and he caught it afterwards. He will put the stock pully on for me and retune

Good deal. It's always wise to double check a shop no matter if they are "the best" and have "never made a mistake" there is always a first. It also lets you learn about your car - being able to work on your car yourself is inevitable with FI.
Definitley Homie, Just by reading posts in this forum I knew the underdrive pully wasn't going to be right. That is why I questioned it. Car should be all set by next weekend I'll post up with the final results
