Procharger Oil
Procharger Oil
Does anyone know whether or not you absolutely have to use the oil Procharger advertises? Is there a cheaper oil? Or is there a more convenient oil instead of buying off of the procharger website?
I mean, if there oil has to be changed every 6,000 miles, that's a lot of oil.. I wish there was a similar oil I could purchase from a small auto store that would do the same job.

The ProCharger oil is tested for the pressure and heat that is built up inside the charger. It is aerated by the charger and produces a fine mist which helps keeps all the parts in working order and gets into the tight tolerances to keep everything working smoothly.
With that being said... there is a reason they don't put the viscosity or any other info onto the bottles. Gimmick? Yes. Another, cheaper oil to use out there? Probably so. But how much cheaper and at what expense?
So you save $10, but have to change it every oil change instead of every other oil change. It's only $30 to begin with. This might sound rude, but I'm just being honest; if you do not want to pay $30 every 18,000 miles with FI... you shouldn't have installed the supercharger. And it is not a lot of oil. It's like 6oz every 6,000 miles (and for $30 it comes in packs of 3).
That's what it boils down to to me. Why are you willing to spend $10-15 less on a different oil and void your warranty and risk screwing something up? Rebuilding a ProCharger will run you just south of $1000 (depending on which parts). Now which one sounds better?

Thanks for the response. I guess you took what I was taking differently than what I meant. My point was, if the procharger requires oil every 6,000 miles, then it would be worth my time to find a more convenient and possibly cheaper place to purchase this oil. Is the web the only place to purchase this oil? If anyone knows of any auto stores that sell this, I'd like to know.
That's what the nature of my question was geared towards, thanks. ^
I have no idea where you pulled this from.. I never once said I did not want to pay for the oil for my super charger. I'm sorry, but it is of my best interest to understand the market out there for this product. I find it logical to compare products and buy the one that is best suitable for its cost/convenience; It's apparent that you don't. It just bewilders me how you bash my curiosity.
Also, I said nothing about it being a pain to put oil in the supercharger. This may sound rude but... If you would like to know a little bit more about my situation, I did not buy the car, it was given to me from my father who bought the super charger. Would you pass up a free G? I am also curious because I want to get the information straight about this after market part so that I can get an understanding as to whether I should keep the car or sell it based on its mileage, condition, and trade in value at the time.
You have no idea what I am risking and what I am not. For your information, my warranty is up. So voiding my warranty is not a factor for me. On the second hand, I don't have Benjamin Franklin trees harvested in my front yard so I am willing to spend 30 seconds to post a thread in hopes of gaining any information that could leave me with some change in my pocket at the end of the day. And before you call me stingy, let me leave you with this; you have no idea what my expenses are. I'm 20 and in college.
I am on this forum to get information from what I figured would be a supportive and helpful community. I hope the rest of the community isn't as critical as you. If you want to know more about my situation feel free to PM me, I'd be glad to talk.
Otherwise, keep being the princess that you think you are.

Your 30 second post was not as clear... thanks for being more descriptive. I am not 'trying' to be critical, but you still make sound as if you are trying to save $5-10 every 20,000 miles. If this is your goal, I don't really care... I was just trying to reason with you.
I already answered the question I thought you were asking. I still stick by it, and again: There probably is a less costly alternative oil. No you won't be able to find out what it is cheaply. The money it takes to get a test done on the ProCharger oil to find out what it is exactly (properties, additives, etc.) you could have bought three years supply. So is it in your best interest to chase this? No. No one knows what it is because the trouble and cost to find out is just as expensive as ordering the ProCharger brand.
You can find ProCharger brand oil on other sites, but their cost is just as much as yours and you won't find it any cheaper then $30 for three 6oz bottles. The only thing you might gain from ordering it off a different site is free shipping (if it's offered).
Keeping a FI G35 in proper working condition is a tough job. It would probably be in your best interest to sell the car as it is and use the money for your schooling. Either that, or you can remove the supercharger and enjoy the car; it should last you a long time (or you can sell the car and SC separately).
.
Oh, and I didn't mean the factory warranty - the second the SC project was started the factory warranty was voided. I'm talking about the warranty ProCharger puts on it's blowers. If they find out you've been putting off-brand oil in your ProCharger they will charge you out the *** if anything ever messes up. If your warranty, from ATI, is up also... then feel free to do whatever you wish.
Hope that helped a little more. I've been around this forum for a loooong time, had the ProCharger on my G for about 4 years, spent several thousand after the fact trying to get everything running right, and still have issues every now and then. I've been around the block with the VQ and ATI unit. Let me know if there is anything else you need.
If you want to find out what other kind of oil works in the unit, the ProCharger community will raise you up on their shoulders and buy you a free lunch. But that would kinda go against your not having a money tree in your front yard.... I can be a genuine dickhole, I won't deny that. I don't know your situation at all, but if you are in a money crunch, I'm simply only trying to keep you from experiencing something that could become a money pit very very quickly - ask any FI owner.

Actually I do have a question and thanks for the response.
I'm bringing my G down to the shop that installed the supercharger this weekend. They're going to take it off and check it out because it is spraying a mist of oil all over the left side of my engine bay. I'm hoping it is something that can be repaired for under 1,000 but who knows. And yes, the warranty for the blower is up. :-/
Have you experienced this before?

I have not. I think some of the Vortech guy have though! Have you checked the oil in the blower unit? Just unscrew the flat head nut (no homo) and a dipstick will be attached.
No matter what, you or the shop will want to clean off the inside of all the piping and probably the MAF, as well as taking off the plenum to see about pooling oil.
Can you tell if it is ProCharger oil or engine oil? Be sure to keep us updated!

It looks as if it is engine oil leaking down into the blower. I'm not driving the car in the meantime. The oil in the blower unit is low, I ordered some oil from procharger yesterday but I'm hesitant to put any more oil in the blower til I figure out what exactly is going on. I don't want it to start spitting out brand new oil. :-/
I'll hopefully have it looked at this weekend and keep you updated

The oil may be blowing through the PCV hose. There is a PCV hose "T" that runs a open hose to the front of the blower ( Not the best setup ) on the drivers side. I was getting a little engine oil also coming through that hose until I put on a catch can ( passenger side ). That fixed the issue for me.

Turns out I have excessive blow by. Time for an engine swap. This time I'm doing it the right way. Looking for a stage 2 block. Any one have any hookups?
